  • Patent number: 4335446
Abstract: At a subscriber station AU communicating with a central office of a data network, a logic unit UM includes a processing subunit UE which, under the control of a microprogrammed subunit UC comprising a microinstruction memory MM and a sequencer SQ, digitally demodulates an incoming carrier and synthesizes an outgoing carrier modulated in the DPSK (differential-phase-shift keying) mode. The modulation is effected by multiplying stored bits of an outgoing signal, read out from a data memory MD, with bits representing digitized sine and cosine samples of the carrier wave obtained from a calculator AL within subunit UE, followed by conversion to analog form and filtering; demodulation is carried out in a similar manner, after conversion of analog samples of the incoming carrier to digital form, by multiplying the resulting bits with those of the calculated sine and cosine samples.

  • Patent number: 4334305
Abstract: A number of data processors have access, via respective interfaces, to a common ring memory made up of cascaded shift-register sections. Each interface comprises a pair of shift registers or a pair of read/write memories one of which, at a given instant, is operatively connected to the ring memory while the other coacts with the processor, their roles being interchanged from time to time by a switchover signal from a logic network in response to an instruction from the associated processor. The logic networks of all interfaces receive clock pulses from a common time base and, optionally, may be able to inhibit temporarily the emission of such pulses pending completion of an exchange of information with the ring memory.

  • Patent number: 4333205
Abstract: A vacuum cleaning machine using a floor-mounted vacuum hood forming a travelling vacuum chamber with an optimum combination of suction nozzle intake means, jet stream manifold means and a mechanical soil agitator means in the form of a carpet rake, where the rake is interposed between the suction nozzle intake means and a plurality of jet streams. The jet streams are generally directed toward the tips of the teeth of the carpet rake and from there toward the intake opening of the suction nozzle means to increase the effectiveness of the suction nozzle means. A second modification of the invention shows the carpet rake replaced by a power-driven brush, and the jet stream means is a combined carpet rake and source of a plurality of jet streams directed toward the working area of the brush. An optimum design is where the compressed air that divides into a plurality of jet streams is made to pulsate so as to create a hammering action on the soil.

  • Patent number: 4334322
Abstract: A communications management system includes a central processor (10) which is connected via an order wire subsystem (12) to various remote terminals (14, 16, 18). The central processor (10) maintains tables (42, 44) which relate remote terminals (14, 16, 18) to communication operating frequencies and assign jammers to selected operating frequencies. Further tables are maintained to list adversary frequencies (40), remote terminal locations (46) and remote terminal channel monitor assignments (48). Processor (10) develops the communications assignment table based on a preselected set of operating channels minus the channels being jammed or used by adversary parties. The channel assignments are changed on a recurring basis to reduce the probability of intercept and jamming. An operator console (24) is provided for displaying the data in the tables and for entering commands to update the tables.

  • Patent number: 4333775
Abstract: The invention relates to the depositing of aluminum alloys useful as material for the manufacture of sleeve bearings. Aluminum and lead in the proper ratio are melted in a furnace, transferred to a holding furnace wherein the temperature of the melt is maintained within the molten range, and the melt is directed to an atomizing or nebulizing chamber. According to the invention, the molten material flowing into the atomization chamber is subjected to an atomizing gas flow having a specified angle of incidence to atomize the molten flow of alloy into small particles which are directly deposited on a continuous pure aluminum strip which moves under the atomization chamber at a preset rate, the aluminum strip with the alloy layer is submitted to a rolling operation and thereafter the strip is rolled together with a steel strip, to provide a cladding of the alloy-aluminum onto the steel of the backing and supporting strip.

  • Patent number: 4333060
Abstract: Three sample and hold circuits (26, 30 and 34) sample a received pulse amplitude modulated signal at twice the data bit frequency or timing of the received signal. The clock to the sample and hold circuits is timed so that three consecutive samples, two mid-bit samples and a transition sample are held in the circuits (26, 30 and 34) once every two sample periods. The mid-bit samples are added together by an adder (32) and divided by two in a divider (38) to provide an average. The transition sample is subtracted from this average in a subtractor (36) to produce an error signal. The error signal is normalized in a multiplier (44) using the reciprocal of the difference in magnitude between the two mid-bit samples to produce a normalized signal. A clock signal is generated by a voltage controlled oscillator (52) in response to the normalized signal at twice the bit frequency or bit timing and in synchronism therewith.
