Abstract: A process is described to uniformly apply finely divided material to tacky surfaces. The process comprises the physical treatment of particulate material to reduce particle aggregates to smaller particles and depositing the particles on the tacky surface with substantially no shearing force. The particle covered surface is then worked or rubbed with a shearing force to redistribute and embed the particles into the tacky surface. By this process, surfaces which are uniformly tacky or which contain tacky image areas can be uniformly and consistently toned without the production of defects like streaks or mottle.
Abstract: Flake silver powders which have a chemisorbed monolayer of organic dispersing agent such as oleic acid on the surfaces and process for their preparation are provided. Such silver powders can be formulated into thick film pastes at above 85% solids levels at relatively low viscosities. Pastes so obtained, when printed and fired, result in films of excellent conductive efficiency.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of nitrated aromatic compounds by the mixed acid process, in which water is removed from the reaction mass by passing an inert gas through it.
Abstract: A pulp suspension of waste paper which is laden with air bubbles is introduced into a flotation cell. Fine air bubbles rise through the pulp suspension toward the top. Printing ink and other impurities are deposited on the bubbles which form a foam layer on the surface of the pulp suspension. The foam which is laden with impurities is drawn off from the surface. The fibers which have been subjected to preliminary purification in this manner sink downwardly. For reducing the number of cells connected in series to fewer than a third, while obtaining the same degree of whiteness, the fibers which were subjected to preliminary purification are drawn off and are once again supplied to the flotation cell in the form of an air-laden pulp suspension. Alternatively, instead of the air-laden pulp suspension, a water-air suspension can be injected. The air bubbles which are thus introduced once again rise toward the top and traverse the sinking fibers in a counterflow.

The preparation of the toners is described. The toners are useful in color developing positive and negative-working photosensitive elements particularly in an automatic toning machine. Improved clean-up and low stain propensity are achieved.
Abstract: To facilitate the supervision of directly dialed long-distance telephone traffic, output signals from call monitors (G.sub.1 -G.sub.n) associated with a number of trunk lines are fed to a plurality of multisensor signal detectors (SD) of an associated exchange working into a data-input unit (ID) which includes a serializer (MS) assembling signal samples from all the sensors into a comprehensive frame. The frame serializer comprises a number of multiplexers (M1-M16) which, in the course of a scanning cycle consisting of 16 subcycles, feed respective output frames from the several detectors during each subcycle to corresponding cells of a shift register (SR). Each output frame contains bits from an associated set of sensors that are sequentially read out during the subcycle in which they are loaded into the shift register. If a given set of sensors is to be scanned at the maximum rate, i.e. 16 times per cycle in this instance, the corresponding multiplexer is not switched between subcycles; otherwise, i.e.

Abstract: A yarn finish applicator in which finish is metered to a slot running from top to bottom of the applicator. The configuration of the body of the applicator and its slot provides an edge at the exit end of the applicator and a slot that is slightly wider at the location at which finish is metered to the slot than at exit of the slot. Two rods are located just below the exit edge of the applicator to collect and drain to a receiver any drops of excess finish which form at the exit edge of the applicator when the threadline is not running.
Abstract: A signal receiver of a QPSK data-transmission system comprises two noncoherent demodulators feeding digitized in-phase and quadrature components to a pair of transversal filters whose coefficients are read out, during successive keying intervals, from a read/write memory accessed by an arithmetic unit which generates corrective terms updating these coefficients. A comparator in the output of each filter detects estimated phase jumps between delayed and undelayed filtered samples of each signal component and delivers them to a decision circuit as well as to an error detector which also receives quantized output signals from the decision circuit to produce two error signals fed to the arithmetic unit; the latter further receives the delayed and undelayed filtered samples as well as ancillary data temporarily stored in these filters to calculate the corrective terms.

Abstract: An electrical connector for interconnecting a large scale integrated (LSI) circuit package having a plurality of conductive interfaces with a printed circuit board or other electrical unit. The LSI circuit package can be inserted or removed from the connector absent any significant force. The connector includes a plurality of latches movable on a ramp of a dielectric housing containing a plurality of contact springs. Movement of the latch out of the ramp valley causes it to clamp onto the upper surface of the LSI and forces the lower surface of the LSI containing the conductive interfaces to electrically contact the contact springs in the housing.
