Abstract: A fuel-feed line extends from a diesel-fuel tank to a fuel pump for a diesel engine and the upstream side of this fuel pump is connected via a return line back to the tank. A feed flow meter is provided in the feed line for measuring flow therein and a return flow meter is provided in the return line. A common housing carries both of these flow meters so that the difference between the two measured flows, which constitutes the fuel consumed by the engine, can easily be calculated.
Abstract: N-(heterocyclicaminocarbonyl)arylsulfonamides in which at least one of the acyclic nitrogens thereof is substituted by lower alkyl, or sometimes in the case of aminocarbonyl nitrogen, by methoxy; e.g. N-[N-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-N-methylaminocarbonyl]-2-chloroben zenesulfonamide or N-[N-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-N-methylaminocarbonyl]-2-nitrobenz enesulfonamide; are useful for the regulation of plant growth and as general and selective herbicides.
Abstract: Compounds for alleviating or reducing angiotensin related hypertension in hypertensive mammals comprising angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors selected from a group of mercaptoacyl aminoacids.
Abstract: A tie bow of ribbon for gift packages and a process of fabricating the bow are disclosed. The bow is formed from three separate ribbon pieces and includes a looped base portion and a superposed wing portion which are united by a central tying strip. As disclosed in the bow-making process, the loop and wing are easily formed by shaping and crimping strips of single-ply ribbon and impaling them on a pair of spaced needles. The tying strip is then looped over the impaled ribbon pieces and stapled to itself to hold the strip in place and finish the bow.
Abstract: N-(heterocyclicaminocarbonyl)aryl and pyridylsulfonamides, useful for the regulation of plant growth and as pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicides.
Abstract: Photopolymerizable elements are described comprising a sheet support, a photopolymerizable layer having a thickness of, at most, 0.0006 inch (0.015 mm.) and an optical density of at least 3.0 in the actinic region. Resist images made from these elements may be etched by a process of chemically undercutting the image areas and then spraying or rubbing them. At least two dot-etched photopolymerizable elements, each exposed through a different color separation negative and colored accordingly, are placed in registration to form a color proofing system.
Abstract: Process for using photopolymerizable compositions involving monomers of ethylenically unsaturated esters of difunctional acids and polymethylene glycols terminated with acrylate and methacrylate groups.
Abstract: Homogeneous blends of at least two non-crosslinked ethylene copolymers having different polar comonomer contents are mildly crosslinked to reduce their melt index. The crosslinked blend can be mixed with tackifier, plasticizer, filler and antioxidant to yield hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive compositions. In the alternative, at least one of the two ethylene copolymers can be crosslinked prior to blending in the hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive composition.
Abstract: A thermosetting coating composition, useful as an automotive finish, has film-forming constituents of a low molecular weight hydroxyl-functional acrylic copolymer, a low molecular weight hydroxyl-functional polyester based on branched-chain glycols, and an aminoplast resin. The composition can be applied at environmentally-acceptable solids levels and cured at commercially acceptable temperatures to form a durable film.
Abstract: Improved process for the preparation of partially alcoholyzed polyvinyl acetate having good compositional uniformity comprises rapid premixing of the polyvinyl acetate polymer and base catalyst solutions in a static mixer and carrying out the alcoholysis reaction in an intermeshing, self-wiping, twin-rotor mixer or mixing extruder. The process yields polyvinyl alcohol product having a maximum hot water insoluble fraction of about 1.1% by weight obtained by the proper adjustment of the feed temperature, the shear rate in the premixer and the catalyst concentration in the catalyst feed solution.
Abstract: Use of a selected antimonate has been found to increase flame-retardancy without lowering thermal resistivity of a polyurethane terephthalate molding blend which contains an ionic hydrocarbon copolymer or ionic salt of a hydrocarbon acid and a low molecular weight compound.
Abstract: A process of forming an image of toner on a latent magnetic image in a magnetic member followed by direct transfer to and coalescence on a surface to form a resist is disclosed. The surface portion not protected by the transferred resist toner image is then permanently modified by etching or plating. An especially useful toner which forms a resist composition comprises a binder of thermoplastic resin and plasticizer and magnetic material present in the binder, compounded to have a tack transfer temperature of no greater than 110.degree.
