  • Patent number: 4243974
Abstract: The conversion of an analog signal which varies over a wide dynamic range, to digital form is accomplished by integrating the analog signal and, simultaneously therewith, integrating in a sense opposite that of the analog signal a reference signal of sufficient amplitude, to maintain the stored charge within the integrator at a relatively low nominal value. This is accomplished by placing comparators on the output of the integrator which function to cause a counter to count up or down in accordance with the relative amplitudes of the analog and reference signals as is necessary to bring the stored charge in the integrator back to the low nominal value. The output of this counter is applied to a range decoder which applies selected geometrically varying ranges of digital signals to a digital to analog converter. The output of the digital to analog converter is applied both to the subtracting or negative input of the integrator, and also provides a reference signal for the comparator.

  • Patent number: 4242544
Abstract: A multiple-switch arrangement wherein a battery of momentary and/or latching switches is mounted in a control panel and the inner end portions of switch housings have transversely extending channels for a centrally located tubular receptacle and two lateral control rails. The inner end portions of the housings carry adapters for blocks of microswitches which are actuated by motion transmitting posts secured to plungers which are reciprocable in the housings and can be depressed in response to displacement of knobs installed in the outer end portions of the housings. The posts which register with the receptacle can extend through the receptacle on their way into engagement with movable portions of the respective microswitches and thereby displace blocking members which are installed in the receptacle and serve to prevent simultaneous actuation of microswitches associated with two or more housings.

  • Patent number: 4242545
Abstract: A momentary or latching mechanical switch wherein the externally threaded outer end portion of the housing has axially parallel external grooves each including a deeper portion, and the frame for the illuminated knob for a reciprocable plunger in the housing has elastic arms extending into the grooves and provided with protuberances received in the deeper portions of the respective grooves. The arms are separably held in their grooves by a nut which meshes with the end portion and is rotatable in a direction to expose the arms. The housing is inserted into the opening of a control panel from within before the arms of the frame are inserted into their grooves from the outside of the control panel, and the nut is thereupon rotated against the inner side of the control panel to confine the arms in their grooves and to urge the frame against the outer side of the control panel. The inner end portion of the housing is separably coupled to an adapter which separably supports several microswitches.

  • Patent number: 4242060
Abstract: A foot pump comprises a base member and an operating member pivotally connected to the base member. A piston-and-cylinder assembly is connected between the members. In use the user depresses the operating member with his or her foot, thereby causing air to be compressed in and expelled from said assembly. A return spring incorporated in said assembly returns the operating member to its raised position. The assembly can be disconnected from the base member and connected to the base member again, at will, and the whole is so arranged that when the assembly is disconnected from the base member the pump can assume a storage position in which the operating member is in a depressed position and the return spring is not loaded, or at least not significantly loaded.
