Abstract: Propenimidates are provided having the formula: ##STR1## wherein X and Y are independently O or S; andR.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, (CH.sub.2).sub.n OR.sup.3 where R.sup.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl and n is 1 or 2, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 Cl, or CH.sub.2 CF.sub.3, provided that when R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 is CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 Cl or CH.sub.2 CF.sub.3, then the respective X or Y is O.Preferred propenimidates have X and Y as O and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 as methyl or ethyl. The propenimidates are made by preparing a monohydrohalide salt from a dihydrohalide salt of the formula: ##STR2## and then contacting the monohydrohalide salt with cyanamide. The propenimidates upon heating ring close to pyrimidines which are useful in preparing herbicidal compounds.
Abstract: Elastomeric terionomer blends composed of (1) a copolymer of chloroprene with an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid, (2) a copolymer of ethylene with an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid, and (3) a terpolymer of ethylene with a vinyl ester of a lower saturated carboxylic acid or with a lower alkyl acrylate or methacrylate and with an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid, which blends are neutralized with metal ions to a degree of at least 10%, are easily processable in conventional rubber-processing equipment, can be extruded and injection-molded, and have very good physical properties and low flammability.
Abstract: Mammalian collagenase is inhibited by compounds having the formula ##STR1## and salts thereof, wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkanoyl of 2 to 10 carbon atoms;R.sub.2 is hydroxy, amino, or ##STR2## R.sub.3 is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, ##STR3## R.sub.4 is hydroxy, amino, arginine, leucine, glutamine, alanine or glycine; andm is 0 or an integer of 1 to 9.
Abstract: A digital frequency deviation meter for measuring the deviation of an FM signal from a center frequency is disclosed. An incoming FM signal is applied to a counter which is cycled through a series of sequential nonambiguous cyclical states. A storage memory, actuated at a center frequency produced by a timer, is provided for storing information about the present and immediately preceding sampled states of the counter. Operating synchronously with the timer is a detector that responds to the differences in magnitude and direction between the present and immediately preceding sampled states of the counter and generates a pulse when a state difference is detected. A frequency counter counts the pulses which are output at a rate proportional to the frequency deviation. To maintain the timer at center frequency a phase lock loop is provided.
Abstract: The functionality of Dutch and natural cocoa powders in cold water and bakery recipes are simulated by a base mix which contains starch granules characterized as having a swelling power of less than 22 and a critical concentration value of at least 5.0 in combination with defatted vegetable seed material. Edible fats, coloring, flavoring and viscosity imparting additives may be included in the base mix to simulate the organoleptic characteristics of the particular cocoa powder which the base mix is intended to extend or replace.
Abstract: New intermediates, namely, N-benzylideneamphotericin B, and its methyl ester, are employed in a new process for preparing water-soluble salts of amphotericin B, methyl ester, such as amphotericin B, methyl ester aspartate.
Abstract: A personal dosimeter for measuring the time-average concentration of a gaseous contaminant in the atmosphere in a manner substantially independent of atmospheric motion relative to the dosimeter is provided. The dosimeter comprises a detector substance capable of chemically or physically combining with the gaseous contaminant disposed tightly between two substantially flat members, at least one of which has a plurality of through-and-through channels. The members have corresponding, meshing shapes such that the channels provide the only communication between the atmosphere and the detector substance, allowing the gaseous contaminant to diffuse through the channels.

Abstract: To permit accurate centering by means of compression rings which are pressed against conical surfaces of a tubular element inserted in the hub, and a sleeve with conical surfaces placed on the shaft, the compression rings are formed with axial centering ring extensions which, at their inner and outer surfaces engaging the hub, and the shaft, respectively, are bowed or curved in cross-section to be, for example, at least approximately part-spherical. Sequential tightening of bolts to draw the compression rings together and the respective conical surfaces over each other thus will not result in misalignment of the compression rings, or tilted or slanted bindings thereof with respect to the hub, or shaft, respectively, but insure accurate positioning of the compression rings, with the centering extensions around the shaft and within the hub.
Abstract: Process for producing superior thick film gold conductors useful in electronic microcircuits containing small amounts of silver in the compositions. Improved properties prior to heat aging include surface characteristics, malleability and electrical conductivity. Improved properties of thermally aged aluminum wire bonds include adhesion, electrical continuity and electrical conductivity.
Abstract: A modified montmorillonite clay is prepared by heating it, impregnating it with an organic liquid, acid-activating it with a strong acid, and then washing it with water until it is substantially free of acid anions. The modified clay is useful as a catalyst, particularly for the preparation of tetrahydrofuran/alkylene oxide copolymers.
Abstract: A portable artificial kidney designed for continuous use includes a catheter with filter properties. The body portion of the catheter has an infusion duct which opens into the surface of the catheter and is provided with surface channels which are covered by a semi-permeable membrane. Ducts are provided which communicate with the channels. One duct is operatively coupled to a suction pump to remove the filtrate. Another duct serves to supply a rinsing solution and the infusion duct serves to replace the liquid which has been filtered off.

Abstract: A semi-automatic bag filling and weighing machine is disclosed including a rotatable indexing table supporting a bag at four spaced locations around the table, a conveyor device for supplying articles to be weighed and filled into the bags, a weighing and filling station to which the bags are moved by the indexing table, a weighing and sensing device for actuating power cylinders operating in conjunction with the filling station, the indexing table and other control devices to move the indexing table so as to replace a filled bag with an empty bag at the filling station. Quick release bag clamping devices are also provided.
Abstract: A method for distortion-free still picture reproduction from magnetic video tape slant tracks wherein the tracks are recorded and scanned without any guard band therebetween by means of two video heads which rotate in a common plane with different azimuth angles. During still picture recording, two adjacent slant tracks are continuously or repetitively scanned by two rotating video hands which have different azimuth angles with one head displaced axially by one slant track width with respect to the other. During still mode reproduction, the two adjacent slant tracks are continuously scanned by mechanically deflecting the two rotating video heads by way of plungers following a ring.
