  • Patent number: 4201283
Abstract: A satellite vending machine having a tier of manually operated ejectors for dispensing a selection of packaged articles from storage magazines therein to expand the capacity of a parent vending machine is installed on top of the parent and utilizes the coin-actuated totalizer unit and associated mechanism of the parent and provides a linkage to its own heavy duty mechanism responsive to the latch positions in the parent as pilferage protection. The dual pricing capability of the parent is extended to the satellite by a linkage from the ejectors of the magazines having the higher priced articles in the satellite to the latch mechanism of the parent to lock both parent and satellite latch mechanisms when a higher priced ejector in the satellite is pulled with the deposit of coins sufficient only for the lower priced articles.

  • Patent number: 4201909
Abstract: For the transmission of data by way of a fiber-optical path, three-bit code words representing eight different signal levels are generated in respective signal periods 2T and are converted into pairs of ternary luminous waveforms of duration T having two possible amplitude levels L (low) and H (high). Each waveform pair includes at least one but not more than two light pulses H, of a width not exceeding T/2, occurring in either of two time positions within a cycle T. At the receiving end, the incoming light pulses are modulated--either before or after conversion into electrical signals--with a ramp signal of recurrence period T which transposes the pulses H to either of two elevated amplitude levels depending upon their time position within a cycle, with the pulses L remaining at a low level. The resulting electrical pulses are integrated over successive periods equal to T and sampled in each of these periods for comparison with predetermined thresholds.

  • Patent number: 4199993
Abstract: The pressure indicator has a body provided with an attachment shank having a pressure fluid passage. A cylinder bore is located at one end of the body communicating with the passage and has a threaded open end. An end plug having a bore and a counterbore is snugly threaded into the open end. A piston is nested in the cylinder bore and has a piston rod axially extending through the cylinder bore and projecting through and outwardly of the plug. A compression spring is interposed between the plug and piston and yieldably biases the piston towards said one end of the cylinder bore. The piston is variably movable longitudinally against the spring on application of pressure to the shank passage. A bearing or bushing is nested within the plug bore and axially and guidably receives the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 4200366
Abstract: The invention provides a portable reader for reading, by way of a magnified image, microform material such as microfiche or microfilm. The reader has a support for the microform material and a light source to pass light through the material. A projection lens is provided to project an image of the material on to a screen and there is also a biocular magnifier lens through which an observer can view a magnified version of the image. A partial reflector is disposed in the light paths between the projection lens and the screen and between the screen and the biocular magnifier lens so that light travels from the projection lens to the screen via the partial reflector and from the screen to the biocular magnifier lens via the partial reflector. In a convenient arrangement light travelling from the projection lens is reflected by the partial reflector towards the screen, and light travelling from the screen is transmitted through the partial reflector to the biocular magnifier lens.

  • Patent number: 4200691
Abstract: Creatine kinase MB isoenzyme can be separated from a mixture of creatine kinase isoenzymes by ion exchange chromatography. Use of a mixture of cation and anion exchange resin in this method permits elution of the MB isoenzyme from the mixed resin while the other isoenzymes are wholely or partially retained. In a preferred embodiment the mixed resin is a mixture of a weakly basic anion exchange resin and a weakly acidic cation exchange resin.

A compression spring is interposed between the plug and piston and yieldably biases the piston towards said one end of the cylinder bore. The piston is variably movable longitudinally against the spring on application of pressure to the shank passage. The improvement resides in the provision of a bushing nested within the plug bore which axially and guidably receives the piston rod. A cylindrical slide seal of plastic material is nested within the plug bore and projects into and depends from the bushing in sealing engagement with the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 4200551
Abstract: Cold-water-dispersible lecithin concentrates are prepared by a homogeneous blend of lecithin and certain nonionic emulsifiers (e.g., polyoxyethylene mono- and diglycerides and polyoxyethylene derivatives of partial fatty acid esters and hexitol anhydrides). The concentrates readily disperse into cold water (e.g., under 5.degree. C.) over a broad concentration range (e.g., 0.05-30%) to form low-viscosity and stable lecithin in water emulsions. Concentrates containing polyoxyethylene mono- and/or diglycerides are particularly effective emulsifiers for the lecithin concentrate.

  • Patent number: 4200611
Abstract: A device for mixing immiscible or semi-immiscible liquids and subsequently separating one or more of them followed by transfer is disclosed. An array of elements is utilized with the center decant transfer tube of one element connecting with the mixing tube of the adjacent element to the right. This is used for transfer of the upper phase material, generally known as the effluent phase. Transfer of the lower phase or the residual phase is accomplished by transferring to the mixing tube indicated to the left in the array. The upper phase is first decanted through a center decant tube, and then, prior to mixing, the lower phase is transferred. The sequence of transfer can be reversed if the units are stacked so that movement proceeds in opposite directions in adjacent rows of elements.

  • Patent number: 4199642
Abstract: The horizontal burning rate of polyester fiberfill coated with cured polysiloxane and/or bonded with a synthetic resin is reduced by incorporating small amounts (2 to 20% by weight) of a synthetic organic filamentary material that maintains its physical integrity when exposed to a small flame. The preferred material is poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide). This has particular application to silicone-slickened polyester staple fibers used for fiberfill, and articles therefrom, but has application also to silicone-slickened polyester filler tow, to resin-bonded polyester staple fiber batts, whether silicone-slickened or not, and to resin-bonded polyester filler tow.
