Abstract: A method is disclosed for hydrolyzing an alpha-1,3 or alpha-1,6 glucosyl-glucose linkage in a saccharide (disaccharide or oligosaccharide). This method comprises contacting the saccharide with an alpha-glucosidase enzyme such as transglucosidase under suitable conditions, during which contacting step the enzyme hydrolyzes at least one alpha-1,3 or alpha-1,6 glucosyl-glucose linkage of the saccharide. This method is useful for reducing the amount of oligosaccharides in a filtrate isolated from a glucan synthesis reaction, for example.

Abstract: A method for producing a polyolefin-based porous film includes an (A) step: a raw fabric forming step for forming a non-porous raw fabric from a polyolefin-based resin composition, a (B) step: an MD cold stretching step for cold stretching the non-porous raw fabric obtained in the (A) step at a temperature of ?20° C. to (Tm?30)° C. (Tm is a melting point (° C.) of the non-porous raw fabric) in an extruding direction (MD) of the raw fabric to make the raw fabric porous; a (D) step: a TD cold stretching step for cold stretching a film processed in the (B) step in a direction (TD) perpendicular to the MD, and an (H) step: a thermal fixing step, in the above order. A thermal fixing temperature T2 (° C.) in the (H) step satisfies expressions (1) and (2) below; T2>T1 (1), (Tm?3)?T2?(Tm?40) (2) (in the expressions, T1 represents a stretching temperature (° C.) in the (D) step, and Tm represents the melting point (° C.) of the non-porous raw fabric).

Abstract: A system for quantitative detection and analysis of the interactions of molecules with molecular receptors on the surfaces of biological cells based on detecting a mechanical deformation in the membrane of a cell associated with the molecular interactions, which works for both large and small molecules. The mechanical deformation can be detected with high precision in real time from an optical image of the cell with a differential detection method. The system can be also used to detect the electrical activities, such as ion channel opening and closing, as well as action potential propagation in neuronal cells.

Abstract: Methods and devices for detecting sites of low optical reflectivity from optical coherence tomography, OCT, of the retina are provided. The method includes segmenting retinal layers from OCT data, calculating optical reflectivity of each segmented retinal layers from the OCT data, and detecting sites of low optical reflectivity from the calculated optical reflectivity of the segmented retinal layers. The calculated optical reflectivity can be compared against a predetermined threshold obtained from a healthy population. Segmenting can be carried out according to the optical reflectivity of each identified retinal layer. OCT-Microangiography data can be displayed side-by-side or superimposed with the enface images of the calculated optical reflectivity. The device can be combined with OCT equipment, in particular for displaying the detected sites of low optical reflectivity.
