Abstract: Peptides have been identified that bind with high affinity to hair, skin, and nails. Peptide-based hair conditioners, hair colorants, skin conditioners, skin colorants, and nail colorants are described. The peptide-based hair conditioners and hair colorants consist of a hair-binding peptide coupled to a hair conditioning agent or a coloring agent, respectively. The peptide-based skin conditioners and skin colorants consist of a skin-binding peptide coupled to a skin conditioning agent or a colorant, respectively. The peptide-based nail colorants consist of a nail-binding peptide coupled to a coloring agent. In all these compositions, the peptide may be directly coupled to the active agent or the coupling may be via a spacer. Personal care compositions containing these peptide-based conditioners and colorants are also described.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods for removing hydrazine compounds from solutions. Solutions containing hydrazine compounds are contacted with crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone.
Abstract: The present invention provides an aluminum electrolytic capacitor having a cathode, an anode and an improved spacer comprised of polymeric nanofibers. The nanofiber spacer offers low ionic resistance, desirable barrier properties and high electrolyte absorption. The use of the improved spacer results in devices having higher capacitance, lower ESR, less heat generation and improved capacitor manufacturing efficiency.
Abstract: This invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding a RNA-directed RNA polymerase. The invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene encoding all or a substantial portion of the RNA-directed RNA polymerase, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of the RNA-directed RNA polymerase in a transformed host cell.

Abstract: A system including an apparatus is presented for treatment of biomass that allows successful biomass treatment at a high solids dry weight of biomass in the biomass mixture. The design of the system provides extensive distribution of a reactant by spreading the reactant over the biomass as the reactant is introduced through an injection lance, while the biomass is rotated using baffles. The apparatus system to provide extensive assimilation of the reactant into biomass using baffles to lift and drop the biomass, as well as attrition media which fall onto the biomass, to enhance the treatment process.

Abstract: Polysaccharides are functionalized using a source of free radicals which forms stable radicals on the polysaccharides structure and wherein the formed radicals reacts with a functionalized unsaturated compound. The method comprises two steps: a first step, wherein the free radical on the polysaccharides chain is formed, and a second step, wherein said radical reacts with the unsaturated compound in the absence of the radical source.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for making a filled fluoropolymer bearing comprising providing an aqueous fluoropolymer dispersion comprising fluoropolymer particles and anionic polyelectrolyte dispersing agent in an amount sufficient for stabilization. The dispersion contains less than about 300 ppm fluorosurfactant based on the weight of the dispersion. The dispersion is coagulated to make a mush and a bearing filler is added to the dispersion prior to or after making the mush. The mush containing bearing filler is applied onto a bearing substrate to produce a coated substrate which is sintered and formed into a bearing.

The solid solution matrix is an ?Fe-?Co face-centered cubic solution with W, Cr and Mo as solute elements and the eutectic reaction products comprise a (Co,Cr)7(W,Mo)6 phase and an ?Fe-?Co phase. The alloy is useful as a valve seat insert for internal combustion engines such as diesel engines.
Abstract: This invention relates to a photosensitive element for use as a flexographic printing plate and a process for preparing the plate from the element. The photosensitive element has at least one photopolymerizable elastomeric layer that comprises a binder, a monomer, a photoinitiator, an onium salt, and a leuco dye. Upon exposure to actinic radiation, the onium salt and leuco dye react resulting in a change of color in polymerized portions of the photopolymerizable layer. The color change provides enhanced image color contrast in the photosensitive element.
