Patent number: 7779332Abstract: An apparatus, system and method can be arranged for coding and/or decoding with a phase invariant coding scheme that is useful for short burst signaling devices. 10-bit data is mapped into a 12-bit data with a non-coherent burst code mapper. A parity generator creates a 12-bit parity data to form a 24-bit extended binary Golay code from the 12-bit data. The values for selected bit fields in the 12-bit data and 12-bit parity data are swapped to generate I and Q data such that sensitivity to changes in rotational phase is removed. I and Q data can be used by a transmitter to transmit a rotationally-invariant signal. On receipt, I and Q signals can be recovered, reverse swapped to generate the parity and data signals, and remapped to recover the transmitted 10-bit data. The receiver can also be arranged to use a soft decoding method for improved signal integrity.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2006Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: Alfred E. Patent number: 7777916Abstract: A printer is operated under a first set of conditions to create a first set of M number of samples and under a target set of conditions to create a second set of K samples. Each sample is produced using the same colorant(s). The actual spectral reflectance for each sample is measured. In accordance with the present invention the actual spectral reflectances for corresponding samples in the first and second sets are used to create a cross-validated, partial-least-squares transform that maps a reflectance from a sample produced under the first set of conditions to a reflectance from a sample produced under the target set of conditions. The transform and the actual spectral reflectance measured from the M number of samples in the first set are used to produce a set of M number of predicted reflectances, where each predicted reflectance represents a sample producible by the printer under the target set of operating conditions using one of the M colorant(s).Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2007Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: E.
