Abstract: Processes for manufacturing capacitors are provided. The processes include direct heating by passing a current through the metal foil substrate, which allows faster heating rates which in turn allow the growth of larger dielectric grains than obtained with conventional processes. Larger dielectric grains produce a capacitor with a higher specific capacitance.

Abstract: Hexafluoroisobutylene and its higher homologs are easily reacted with SO3 to give fluorosulfates of the formula CH2?C(R)CF2OSO2F, wherein R is a linear, branched or cyclic fluoroalkyl group comprised of 1 to 10 carbon atoms and may contain ether oxygen. These compounds react under mild conditions with many nucleophiles to give CH2?C(R)CF2X, where X is derived from the nucleophile. This reaction provides a route to many substituted hexafluoroisobutylenes, which copolymerize easily with other fluoro- and hydrocarbon monomers such as vinylidene fluoride and ethylene.

Abstract: Through screening of a Zymomonas mutant library the himA gene was found to be involved in the inhibitory effect of acetate on Zymomonas performance. Xylose-utilizing Zymomonas strains further engineered to reduce activity of the himA gene were found to have increased ethanol production in comparison to a parental strain, when cultured in mixed-sugars medium comprising xylose, and, in particular, in the presence of acetate.

Abstract: An optimum salinity profile in surfactant/polymer flooding from formation water to post-flush drive that leads to the highest oil recovery factor is shown. The optimum salinity determined from core-flooding experiments is preferably used in the surfactant slug. The surfactant slug is protected from deterioration by the injection of cushion slugs immediately before and after the injection of the surfactant slug in a reservoir wherein the cushion slugs have the same salinity or about the same salinity as the surfactant slug. According to embodiments, a salinity lower than the lowest salinity of Type III, Csel, is used in the post-flush drive, while formation water could be of any salinity.
Abstract: A system and method are provided for keeping track of the ownership of unique items in a system including a server computer connected to a database and at least one client computer connected to the server computer over a network. In operation information concerning the item is entered into the client computer. This information, includes at least a description of the item and its owner, is uploaded from the client computer to said server computer where the information is stored in the database. In response, the system provides from the server to the client computer a transaction identification number related to the information and an item number related to the item. A user at the client computer can use the transaction identification number to access the uploaded information at the database to determine the current owner of the item.
Abstract: This invention relates to a protected organotin-based catalyst system for polyurethane synthesis that is useful in coatings applications. The catalyst has low activity in the absence of oxygen. When a coating mixture comprising the catalyst is sprayed and/or applied to a substrate as a thin film in air, the catalyst is activated. For solvent-based refinish systems comprising hydroxyl and isocyanate species at high solids levels, the catalyst system therefore provides extended viscosity stability, i.e., pot life.
