Abstract: This invention relates to personal care compositions containing polytrimethylene ether glycol in a variety of physical forms including solutions, gels, oil-in-water emulsions, water-in-oil emulsions, suspensions and solids. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the polytrimethylene ether glycol is derived predominantly from monomers obtained from renewable resources, making the personal care products of this embodiment of the present invention more environmentally friendly in terms of their manufacture, use and disposal.
Abstract: The invention relates to methods and compositions for identifying maize plants that have newly conferred tolerance or enhanced tolerance to, or are susceptible to, Gray Leaf Spot (GLS). The methods use molecular genetic markers to identify, select and/or construct tolerant plants or identify and counter-select susceptible plants. Maize plants that display newly conferred tolerance or enhanced tolerance to GLS that are generated by the methods of the invention are also a feature of the invention.

Abstract: Devices and methods for locating a target site for the electrical stimulation of muscles are disclosed. The intensity of a search stimulus is varied continuously near the threshold to evoke an M-wave recorded by EMG electrodes. A feedback signal allows the clinician to judge when the threshold is sufficiently low to warrant the implantation of the stimulation electrodes at that site.

Abstract: A fluoropolymer coated film comprising polymeric substrate film and fluoropolymer coating on the polymeric substrate film. The fluoropolymer coating comprises fluoropolymer selected from homopolymers and copolymers of vinyl fluoride and homopolymers and copolymers of vinylidene fluoride polymer blended with compatible adhesive polymer comprising functional groups selected from carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid, aziridine, anhydride, amine, isocyanate, melamine, epoxy, hydroxy, anhydride and mixtures thereof. The polymeric substrate film comprises functional groups on its surface that interact with the compatible adhesive polymer to promote bonding of the fluoropolymer coating to the substrate film.
Abstract: Optical articles, such as displays, optical lenses, windows, optical polarizers and transparent films are made as a composite structure comprising a substrate and an anti-reflective coating applied to the substrate. The anti-reflective coating comprises: A) a fluoroelastomer having cures sites selected from the group consisting of bromine atoms, chlorine atoms, iodine atoms, non-conjugated dienes, and mixtures of two or more thereof; and B) a non-fluorinated multiolefinic cross linking agent. The surface of the substrate may be treated by simultaneously bombarding the surface with an ionized inert gas, and etching the surface with an ionized reactive gas, so as to improve the adhesion of the coating to the substrate.
Abstract: An electro-optic display comprises a backplane; a layer of electro-optic material disposed adjacent the backplane; a protective layer; and a sealing layer of a metal or a ceramic extending between the backplane and the protective layer, and thus sealing the layer of electro-optic material from the outside environment.

Abstract: An implantable substrate sensor has electronic circuitry and electrodes formed on opposite sides of a substrate. A protective coating covers the substrate, effectively hermetically sealing the electronic circuitry under the coating. Exposed areas of the electrodes are selectively left uncovered by the protective coating, thereby allowing such electrodes to be exposed to body tissue and fluids when the sensor is implanted in living tissue. The substrate on which the electronic circuitry and electrodes are formed is the same substrate or “chip” on which an integrated circuit (IC) is formed, which integrated circuit contains the desired electronic circuitry. Such approach eliminates the need for an hermetically sealed lid or cover to cover hybrid electronic circuitry, and allows the sensor to be made much thinner than would otherwise be possible. In one embodiment, two such substrate sensor may be placed back-to-back, with the electrodes facing outward.
