Abstract: A MOS or CMOS sensor for high performance imaging in broad spectral ranges including portions of the infrared spectral band. These broad spectral ranges may also include portions or all of the visible spectrum, therefore the sensor has both daylight and night vision capabilities. The sensor includes a continuous multi-layer photodiode structure on a many pixel MOS or CMOS readout array where the photodiode structure is chosen to include responses in the near infrared spectral ranges. A preferred embodiment incorporates a microcrystalline copper indium diselenide/cadmium sulfide photodiode structure on a CMOS readout array. An alternate preferred embodiment incorporates a microcrystalline silicon germanium photodiode structure on a CMOS readout array. Each of these embodiments provides night vision with image performance that greatly surpasses the GEN III night vision technology in terms of enhanced sensitivity, pixel size and pixel count.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of producing the material that is unaffected by the low-temperature degradation, humidity-enhanced phase transformation typical of yttria-stabilized zirconia, as well as of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline ceramic (Y-TZP). Because of the high fracture toughness and high mechanical strength, this class of materials is widely used, including as implants, such as for the packaging material for small implantable neural-muscular sensors and stimulators. The destructive phase transformation rate is dramatically reduced by coating the surface of the Y-TZP component with dense alumina by a physical vapor deposition process, preferably ion beam assisted deposition.

Abstract: A Christmas bell ornament is disclosed, which is reduced in overall thickness to improve bulkiness in prior art. The bell ornament is made by adjoining two formed metal plates via the junction surface around the periphery with their inner surfaces facing each other. In horizontal cross sectional view, the width at the middle section of bell body after adjoinment is bigger that the width at each end, and an arc surface is formed with the bell body tapering from the middle section towards each end With overall size reduced, the volume of goods transported can be increased and the transport cost can be reduced. There can also be bossed pattern on the surface of Christmas bell ornament to give it excellent visual effect.

Abstract: A cap (10) connected to a liquid supplying tube (90) includes a passage, a liquid absorption member (40), and a gas permeable and liquid impermeable filter (50). The passage communicates with the tube and has open end. The liquid absorption member (40) is located with the passage. The filter (50) is mounted at the end of the passage to close the passage.
Abstract: A method is provided for managing graphics files associated with a presentation. The method comprises the steps of storing a first graphics file corresponding to an image in a first graphics resolution in a database, generating a second graphics file in a second graphics resolution from the first graphics file, storing the second graphics file in the database, indexing the second graphics file to the first graphics file, receiving a presentation type for the image, determining an optimum graphics resolution for the image based on the presentation type, and selecting a graphics file from the database for use in the presentation based on the optimum graphics resolution.
Abstract: Compositions are provided comprising aqueous dispersions of polythiophenes and colloid-forming polymeric acids. Films from invention compositions are useful as buffer layers in organic electronic devices, including electroluminescent devices, such as, for example, organic light emitting diodes (OLED) displays in combination with metal nanowires or carbon nanotubes in applications such as drain, source, or gate electrodes in thin film field effect transistors.

Abstract: The woven conveyor belt, particularly in a plain weave, for the heat treatment of products, particularly textile threads, in the vapor phase, comprises warp threads exclusively made of para-aramid or para-aramid copolymer, preferably of a copoly-(paraphenylene/3,4?-oxydiphenylene terephthalamide). Preferably, the warp threads and the weft threads are made exclusively of para-aramid or para-aramid copolymer.
Abstract: Disclosed are thermoplastic compositions comprising partially or fully neutralized carboxylic acid-based ionomers modified with rosin or rosin derivatives and, optionally, organic acids and salts thereof. Methods of preparing the thermoplastic compositions are also provided. The thermoplastic compositions exhibit higher hardness and stiffness than typical ionomer compositions. Also disclosed are golf balls, sporting equipment, and other non-sport articles comprising said thermoplastic compositions and methods for their preparation.
Abstract: Carbon nanotubes have been reversibly and readily oxidized and reduced with common chemicals in solution, thereby allowing the nanotubes to be used as catalysts for chemical reactions and as stable charge storage devices.
Abstract: Compositions and methods for suppressing the shade-avoidance response of plants and improving plant yield are provided. Compositions of the invention include an early flowering 3 (ELF3) maize gene, the promoter for this gene, an Arabidopsis basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor (bHLH-041), and fragments and variants thereof. The ELF3 promoter sequence is useful for driving expression of polynucleotides of interest in a plant. The ELF3 and bHLH-041 sequences of the invention, or variants and fragments thereof, are provided in expression cassettes for use in manipulating expression of the ELF3 and bHLH-041 genes. By increasing expression of ELF3 and/or suppressing expression of bHLH-041, the methods of the invention provide for altered response of a plant to light quality and suppression of the high-density-invoked survival mode of development. The invention thus provides methods for growing crop plants at high population densities for yield enhancement.

Abstract: A circuit for a series motor for a power tool is disclosed, wherein reliable switching is achieved by means of two electronic switches, without the use of a mechanically disconnecting switch. To this end, two electronic switches, preferably triacs, are preferably connected in series to each other, the voltage drop across the triacs being continuously monitored by a monitoring circuit. A check for faults can be carried out before switching on the power tool. Alternatively, a fusible cutout can be tripped by means of a protective switch connected in parallel thereto.
