Abstract: A thin-film transistor includes a gate electrode having a first gate electrode edge and a second gate electrode edge opposite the first gate electrode edge. The TFT also includes a drain electrode having a first drain electrode edge that overlaps the first gate electrode edge, and a second drain electrode edge that overlaps the second gate electrode edge. A method for fabricating a diode array for use in a display includes deposition of a conductive layer adjacent to a substrate, deposition of a doped semiconductor layer adjacent to the substrate, and deposition of an undoped semiconductor layer adjacent to the substrate. A display pixel unit provides reduced capacitative coupling between a pixel electrode and a source line. The unit includes a transistor, the pixel electrode, and the source line. The source line includes an extension that provides a source for the transistor. A patterned conductive portion is disposed adjacent to the source line.

Abstract: A fiber textile semi-finished material is fed directly and reformed onto a carrier and reforming tool, where it is fixed with a binder. The carrier has a contour matching the negative or positive shape of the final required geometry of a preform that is to be fabricated. The reformed semi-finished article fixed with the binder is removed from the carrier to provide the preform. Several preforms of different cross-sectional shapes are joined together, compacted to form a dense component having nearly the required finished contour, impregnated with a matrix system including a curable adhesive resin, and then cured under an elevated temperature and/or pressure. The result is a finished fiber reinforced composite structural element such as an aircraft window frame. This method is carried out on an apparatus including the rotating carrier and reforming tool, which may have a cylindrical and/or annular surface for receiving and reforming the material.

Abstract: A system and method of use of a storage capacitor to improve the appearance and addressing characteristics of an electronically driven display. The capacitor is formed by the overlap of portions of electrodes used to address different pixels, or by the overlap of an addressing line and a conductor. An insulator layer situated between the capacitor electrodes can be the same insulator layer present in an FET transistor used to address the pixel. Methods of use of capacitors to achieve improved display addressing are disclosed.

Abstract: A process for producing low molecular weight, granular polytetrafluoroethylene or modified polytetrafluoroethylene by suspension polymerization of pressurized tetrafluoroethylene in an agitated reaction vessel. The polymerization is conducted in aqueous medium in the presence of a free radical initiator, and a telogen. The reaction vessel is agitated during polymerization sufficiently to coagulate the polytetrafluoroethylene or modified polytetrafluoroethylene. Low molecular weight granular polytetrafluoroethylene or modified polytetrafluoroethylene having a melt viscosity of less than about 1×106 Pa·S powder is isolated directly from the reaction vessel.
Abstract: The present invention concerns a process for producting cables, in particular cables for the distribution of electrical energy or cables for telecommunications, more particularly, cables having at least one covering layer comprising a composition of high viscosity. More particularly, the present invention concerns cables having at least one covering layer comprising a polymeric composition comprising a mineral filler capable of imparting one or more specific properties to the aforesaid cables. In accordance with the present invention, said production process comprises the stages of: conveying at least one conducting element inside of an extruder; feeding the polymeric material, optionally premixed with other components of said composition, into said extruder, filtering the material transferred and plasticized by the screw of said extruder; depositing said material onto said at least one conducting element, the filtration operation being performed with a filtration efficiency greater than 0.

Abstract: A method for interrogating objects to identified over a communication medium utilizes objects that include a counter. The objects provide predetermined responses indicative of object identification numbers. Interrogation signals operate to interrogate a signal digit from the objects. Incomplete identification numbers are recorded and retrieved whenever two or more predetermined responses are received from the objects. A signal is sent to the objects to cause the objects to selectively add a number to their respective counter. The number is determined by each object and is dependent upon one or more previous responses of the object to interrogation signals. A signal is sent to the objects to cause the objects to selectively subtract a number from their respective counter. The number is determined by each object and is dependent upon one or more previous responses of the object top the interrogation signals. Complete identification numbers are recorded as they determined.
Abstract: Optical fiber ribbon having an optical fiber with a radiation curable internal coating and a radiation curable colored coating disposed to surround the internal coating, and a radiation curable matrix material surrounding one or more of the optical fibers to form a ribbon, in which: the colored coating has a degree of adhesion to the inner coating which is higher than the degree of adhesion to the matrix material; and the optical fiber in the optical fiber ribbon shows, upon aging of the ribbon for at least two weeks in water at 60° C., an increase in the attenuation of the transmitted signal at 1550 nm of less than 0.05 db/km with respect to the attenuation of the assembled optical fiber measured before aging.
