Abstract: A computing system that uses a Scale-Out NUMA (“soNUMA”) architecture, programming model, and/or communication protocol provides for low-latency, distributed in-memory processing. Using soNUMA, a programming model is layered directly on top of a NUMA memory fabric via a stateless messaging protocol. To facilitate interactions between the application, OS, and the fabric, soNUMA uses a remote memory controller—an architecturally-exposed hardware block integrated into the node's local coherence hierarchy.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a method of encoding a media bitstream of a media content. The media bitstream comprises a payload portion for the media content, and an overhead portion, different from the payload portion. The method comprises the steps of: modifying a part of the payload portion of the media bitstream, the modified part representing a region of the media content; and inserting the said part, as unmodified, into the overhead portion of the modified media bitstream for later reconstruction of the unmodified payload portion, such that the modified part in the media bitstream can be decoded without decoding the part as unmodified from the overhead portion. The invention also relates to a method of decoding, to an encoder and to a decoder.

Abstract: A laser device includes an apparatus for producing amplified laser pulses, using a plurality of amplifying optical fibers, and groups the basic amplified pulses into an overall amplified pulse, as well as a target, onto which the overall amplified pulse is directed such as to generate a predetermined physical process thereon, which causes a change of state in the target. The laser device is configured to measure at least one distinctive parameter of the generated physical process; adjust at least one characteristic for adjusting the basic amplified laser pulses; and analyze a plurality of measurements for different adjustments. The device analyzes the measurements many times in loops for different laser pulse adjustment characteristics, enabling an optimization by a heuristic method. Also provided is a heuristic optimization method implemented by the laser device.
Abstract: A method for assessing cell contraction includes adhering contractile cells to an oxidized and cellular adhesion activated surface of a biocompatible silicone elastomer film. The biocompatible silicone elastomer film allows the cells to contract and wrinkles when the cells contract. Wrinkles in the biocompatible silicone elastomer film formed by contraction of the contractile cells are analyzed to assess cell contraction.
