Abstract: An inputting device for a refrigerator, comprises: a display having one or more button regions; and an optical sensor for sensing the button region selected by a user according to whether optical signals have been shielded; and a controller for receiving a signal indicating the sensed state from the optical sensor thereby controlling an operation of a refrigerator. Since the optical sensor for sensing the button region selected by a user is provided, an operation error is reduced. Furthermore, since the optical sensor has a low cost, a fabrication cost is reduced.

Abstract: A display device having a plurality of power supplies and a method for controlling the same are provided. A large-screen display device can be embodied using a plurality of small-capacity power supplies. The operating states of the power supplies are monitored so that the user can immediately deal with abnormal operations of the power supplies. The display device includes a Plasma Display Panel (PDP) module including a plurality of boards that are grouped into at least two groups, at least two power supplies corresponding to the at least two groups and supplying power to the grouped boards, and a controller. Upon receiving a power-on command, the controller controls the at least two power supplies to be activated and controls them to supply power to the grouped boards in the PDP module.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of recording control information in a recordable optical disc including at least one recording layer. In recording control information within a management area of an optical disc including at least one or more recording layers, the present invention includes providing the control information to each of the at least one or more recording layers per recording velocity, recording an information identifying a type of the corresponding control information within the control information, and recording a write strategy (WS) interworking with the type of the control information. In recording a write strategy (WS) within disc information, CLV and CAV are separately recorded, whereby it is able to efficiently cope with the record/playback of the optical disc.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for upgrading software of a video device is disclosed. A software program associated with the video device is downloaded using wireless communication to upgrade the video device. This allows the software program to be more quickly downloaded. The apparatus includes a tuner unit, a storage unit, and a controller. The tuner unit receives a plurality of ROM files into which a software program associated with a video device has been divided. The storage unit stores the received ROM files. The controller reads the stored ROM files and upgrades the video device.

Abstract: A system and method for effectively determining a current physical location of a remote control device includes a television device that is configured to receive television control information over an RC-TV communications link. The remote control device transmits the device control information over the RC-device communications link for controlling various functions of the television device. In situations in which the current physical location of the remote control device is unknown, a system user may initiate a location search procedure with a search trigger event to locate the remote control device. The remote control device then generates one or more location indicators in response to the search trigger event to thereby facilitate determining the current physical location of the remote control device.

Abstract: Fractal decompression and the Retinex algorithm are combined to produce a color constancy method. By using this approach, color constancy and image compression can be achieved simultaneously.

The device can improve bright room contrast. Also, the sharpness of the display images may be enhanced by reducing the bleeding phenomenon of the display images as well as the adhesiveness of the filter may be enhanced by forming the bottom of the pattern units of the external light shielding sheet as a concave shape in which the center area is depressed into the inside.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an image processing technique, and in particular to a method for restoring a compressed image by using a hybrid motion compensation discrete cosine transform (hybrid MC/DCT) mechanism, including: a step of defining a smoothing functional having a smoothing degree of an image and reliability for an original image by pixels having an identical property in image block units; and a step of computing a restored image by performing a gradient operation on the smoothing functional in regard to the original image, thereby preventing the blocking artifacts and the ringing effects in regard to the pixels having an identical property in image blocks. In one embodiment, the method includes obtaining a pixel value in a current block and at least one adjacent pixel value, obtaining a difference value between the pixel value in the current block and the adjacent pixel value, and obtaining a smoothing value of the current image based on the difference value.
