Abstract: A film transport mechanism for transporting film having perforations including a motor that drives sprockets for transporting the film in increments defined by a pull down stroke. In addition, the mechanism includes a pin element having at least one pin, the pin element being rotatable to a first position wherein the pin is inserted into an associated perforation to stabilize the film without contacting a perforation edge to generate a first sound level when the pull down stroke substantially equals a perforation pitch. Further, when the pitch is not equal to the pull down stroke, the pin contacts a perforation edge to generate a second sound level. The mechanism also includes a microphone positioned adjacent the pin element and the film for detecting a range of sound levels.

Abstract: A digital high definition television receiver equalizer system includes an input adaptive feed forward filter (FFF 20), a carrier recovery network (46), and a slicer (40) in addition to an adaptive decision feedback filter (DFF, 30) for removing intersymbol interference. At the beginning of a blind equalizing interval the FFF is not adapted and the DFF operates as a linear filter with adapted coefficients for equalizing post-ghosts. Afterwards in the blind interval the FFF coefficients are adapted blindly for equalizing pre-ghosts. In a subsequent decision-directed mode the slicer output is used for adapting both the FFF and DFF non-linearly.

Abstract: A systematically structured diagnostic for detecting, isolating, analyzing and reporting problems or faults in a central processing unit. The diagnostic causes the central processing unit to execute instructions, the instructions being selected such that the central processing unit, in executing the instructions, must use every data path and functional unit therein. Errors caused by particular instructions are correlated with the functional units or datapaths used by those instructions, to produce a list of possibly faulty datapaths and functional units. Test procedures, specifically designed to the possibly faulty datapaths and functional units, are then applied to the central processing unit to isolate which of the possibly faulty data paths or functional units are in fact faulty, which are then reported.

Abstract: A method for checking wire bonding result of a ball grid array (BGA) package is disclosed. An electroconductive metal layer of gold or copper is grounded on a chip bonding portion of a printed circuit board (PCB) of the BGA package as well as on a passage extending between the chip bonding portion and the gate of the PCB. After a wire bonding step, a probe and a capillary of a wire bonding checking system contact with the gate and with a semiconductor chip respectively. Thereafter, an electric current is sent to the BGA package from the checking system so as to check whether the BGA package sends the electric current therethrough. When there is neither a lift bond nor a missing wire in the BGA package, the package will send the current. However, when there is either a lift bond or the missing wire in the BGA package, the package will not send the current.

This apparatus allows a synchronizing signal to be detected more precisely. Also, the acquisition of slipped data is facilitated by rearranging output data in the unit of sync blocks.
Abstract: A method for testing a semiconductor wafer processing step. An overlying electrical structure is created on a bare wafer to form a test wafer which simulates the surface contours of production wafers that will be exposed to the tested processing step. The overlying electrical structure of the test wafer is created using the same processing steps are used in manufacturing the overlying electrical structures of production wafers. Although the test wafers have the same surface contour as the production wafers they simulate, the test wafers are less expensive to manufacture because the test wafers do not include any underlying layers found in the production wafers which are not exposed during the tested processing step, and therefore the steps which form these layers can be omitted when making test wafers.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the flying height of a recording head that is separated from a rotating disk by an air bearing. The recording head has a trailing edge that extends from an interface of a substrate. The trailing edge has an embedded read/write element and an outer tip. The recording head is loaded into a flying height tester that can measure the distance between the disk and any point on the head. The flying height tester contains a transparent disk that is rotated to create an air bearing between the head and the disk. The outer tip is separated from the disk by an air bearing height h.sub.m. The read/write element is separated from the disk by an air bearing height h.sub.g. The substrate interface is separated from the disk by an air bearing height h.sub.i. The flying height tester measures the height h.sub.g to obtain the distance between the read/write element and the disk.
