  • Publication number: 20100064671
Abstract: A method and device for evaporating a predeterminable volume of fluid includes successive addition of partial volumes of the predeterminable volume to a supply line at different adding rates, at least partially evaporating the partial volumes forming vapor film between them and a supply line wall, conveying the partial volumes through the supply line to an evaporator surface, and applying the partial volumes to an evaporator surface region varying as a function of mass and/or volume adding rate of the partial volume, permitting effective evaporation of fluid, particularly urea/water solution. Utilization of the highest possible proportion of evaporator surfaces is achieved by mass and/or volume addition rate-dependent distribution of impingement surfaces on the evaporator surface. This heating strategy in the supply line region ensures the Leidenfrost effect when individual partial volumes are added.

Abstract: A process for producing a structure in a smooth sheet-metal strip includes multiple process steps. In a first step, a first section of a smooth sheet-metal strip is fed to a first tool and a second section of the sheet-metal strip is fed to a second tool in a direction of advance. Then the sheet-metal strip is stopped. A sheet-metal machining of the first section of the sheet-metal strip is carried out using the first tool. A sheet-metal machining of the second section of the sheet-metal strip is carried out using the second tool, with the first feeding step being carried out simultaneously. An apparatus is provided for producing a sheet-metal strip of such a complex structure, which produces the structure with a very high degree of accuracy even when the materials properties differ.

  • Publication number: 20090277161
Abstract: A device for supplying reducing agent solution into an exhaust system, includes a reservoir for reducing agent solution and a delivery device for delivering reducing agent solution from the reservoir to a reducing agent infeed configuration. A delivery height to be overcome between the reservoir and the reducing agent infeed configuration is less than 1.5 meters and the delivery device includes a diaphragm pump. The device permits the dosed metering of reducing agent solution into an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine regardless of prevailing boundary conditions, in particular regardless of the position of the device, which is for example influenced by a position of a corresponding automobile. In particular, it is thus also possible to ensure reliable metering of reducing agent solution into the exhaust system even when the automobile or motor vehicle is traveling over grades. A corresponding exhaust system, method and utility vehicle are also provided.

Abstract: A device for evaporating at least one of the following reactants: a reducing agent precursor solution and a reducing agent precursor, includes at least one electrically heatable heating zone having at least one electrically operable heating element with a heating resistor that is self-regulated about a significant temperature. A method and the device for evaporating a reactant allow a simple control of an evaporation process, especially of a urea/water solution, to provide a reducing agent, especially in an SCR process. • Publication number: 20090198087
Abstract: A method for providing a reducing agent precursor includes heating a quasi-closed evaporator volume, delimited by a wall and at least partially filled with a solution of a reducing agent precursor, to a reserve temperature of the solution to produce an atmosphere of a vapor including at least one reducing agent precursor at a reserve pressure above ambient pressure. The vapor is extracted on demand by utilizing a pressure difference between the reserve pressure and an ambient pressure. The method and a device provide reducing agent precursors that can especially be used in the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides. The method and the device allow easy dosing since, due to the pressure gradient between the vapor and an extraction line, no other conveying device is required when the vapor, which contains at least one reducing agent precursor, is dosed to a hydrolysis catalytic converter.

  • Publication number: 20090120078
Abstract: An apparatus for treating exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, includes a feed conduit feeding aqueous solution, a hydrolysis catalytic converter connected to the feed conduit and an SCR catalytic converter through which exhaust gas flows. A rod-shaped heating element heats at least parts of the feed conduit and/or hydrolysis catalytic converter. The apparatus provides a compact structure of a feed conduit heated by a rod-shaped element and a corresponding hydrolysis catalytic converter, with which an aqueous solution containing urea can be evaporated and then hydrolyzed to a gas stream containing ammonia. This gas stream serves as a reducing agent in the SCR process. The compact configuration allows installation in very confined space conditions. The hydrolysis catalytic converter, through which exhaust gas does not flow, permits the volume of the hydrolysis catalytic converter to be decisively reduced, since significantly smaller mass flows of gas need to be hydrolyzed therein.

Abstract: A device and a method for providing a gaseous substance mixture including at least one of a reducing agent and/or a reducing agent precursor, include a reservoir for an aqueous solution including at least one reducing agent precursor, from which the aqueous solution can be delivered into at least one metering line having a dispensing opening by a delivery device, and a device for heating the metering line above a critical temperature greater than the boiling temperature of water. Complete evaporation of an aqueous solution including urea and subsequent hydrolysis to form a substance mixture including ammonia, are carried out. Carrying out the evaporation outside the exhaust system uses considerably smaller hydrolysis catalytic converters, which is space-saving and cost-saving compared to conventional devices for providing a reducing agent for selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides.

An electrical potential difference can be generated between the structures.
