  • Patent number: 6528454
Abstract: A catalyst carrier body for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, especially of a motor vehicle, includes a matrix having an inflow surface, an outflow surface, a periphery, and a multiplicity of catalytic surfaces around which exhaust gas can flow. The catalytic surfaces have front regions and form flow-through passages. The exposed front regions have lengths, at least in a partial region of the outflow surface, amounting to from 55% to 90% of the length of the flow-through passages, for increasing an outward dissipation of heat. As a result, outwardly open heat radiating areas are guaranteed for an improved emission of heat to the surroundings or into the exhaust system.

  • Patent number: 6449843
Abstract: To manufacture a honeycomb body, it is proposed that at least one stack is layered up from a plurality of at least partly structured sheet metal layers. Each stack is folded over about a bending line such that a sheet metal pack is formed having a curved first end area and a second end area. • Patent number: 6425517
Abstract: A method for applying a brazing medium to a configuration, which includes a honeycomb body and a jacket pipe, is described. First, the honeycomb body is formed by stacking and/or winding of sheet metal layers. At least one end face of the honeycomb body is brought into contact with a roller having an adhesive medium disposed thereon, and the roller is mounted rotatably about a roller axle. The configuration and the roller are moved relative to one another such that the roller deposits the adhesive medium onto the honeycomb body. Subsequently, a brazing medium is introduced at least into the honeycomb body.

  • Patent number: 6192582
Abstract: A method of making a hollow shaft having multiple functional elements arranged along the axis of an inner shaft tube is provided. Several multiple shafts equipped with functional elements may be joined by expansion using probes inserted into the shafts and connected to a high pressure generator. In addition, a method of providing functional elements to an inner tube wherein the individual non-round functional elements have annular projections concentric to the base circle is provided, where the internal diameter of the functional elements is slightly larger than the external diameter of the shaft tube. The functional elements have an annular region on their lateral edges of approximately half the wall thickness that complements the adjacent non-round functional element to achieve a full wall thickness and the annular projections are produced by re-formation of the profile tube.

  • Patent number: 5328774
Abstract: A honeycomb body includes leading and trailing end surfaces being mutually spaced apart in a given flow direction. Subsections are disposed in succession in the given flow direction between the end surfaces. At least some sheet-metal layers have structures forming channels therebetween extending approximately in the given flow direction through which a fluid can flow. The channels have dimensions determined by the structures of the sheet-metal layers. Each of the subsections has a different number of channels per unit of cross-sectional area and the channels have cross-sectional areas differing in each of the subsections. The sheet-metal layers include some layers being smooth or slightly structured in proportion to the dimensions of the channels, having spacings therebetween and extending from the leading to the trailing end surfaces giving the honeycomb body a monolithic form, and the sheet-metal layers include different numbers of other sheet-metal layers filling the spacings in each of the subsections.
