  • Patent number: 9099241
Abstract: An enhanced energy storage device such as double layer capacitor or battery is made starting with a substrate capable of conducting stored energy. The substrate material is one in which ordered pores can be formed, creating a template of densely arrayed pores. An electrode comprised of high density carbon nanotubes within the template is grown from and oriented substantially perpendicular to the substrate to constitute an axi-symmetric, ultra-high surface area electrode, and then the template is then selectively and only partially etched. An electrolyte is structurally confined anisotropically around the nanotubes by a remaining portion of the selectively and partially etched template so that substantially enhanced energy storage is obtained. The optimal structural confinement, which causes optimal charge storage, depends upon the amount of partial etching of the template which is defined by the electrolyte selected.

  • Patent number: 9095809
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for improving separation of gas phase streams using an adsorbent, such as 8-member ring zeolite adsorbents or DDR type zeolite adsorbents. Suitable gas phase streams can include at least one hydrocarbon, such as methane or a hydrocarbon containing at least one saturated carbon-carbon bond, and at least one additional component, such as CO2 or N2. The selectivity of the adsorbent is improved by selectivating the adsorbent with one or more barrier compounds. The presence of the barrier compounds is believed to alter the relative ability of potential adsorbates to enter into and/or move within the pores of the adsorbent.

In one embodiment, a cooling apparatus includes a fluid inlet channel, a jet orifice surface having one or more jet orifices fluidly coupled to the fluid inlet channel such that coolant fluid within the fluid inlet channel flows through the one or more jet orifices as one or more impingement jets, and a target surface. The target surface and the jet orifice surface define an impingement chamber where the one or more impingement jets impinge the target surface at an impingement region such that at least some of the coolant fluid changes to a vapor. The cooling apparatus further includes a plurality of sloped vapor outlet channels that are fluidly coupled to the impingement chamber. Coolant fluid flows through the plurality of sloped vapor outlet channels after it impinges the target surface.

  • Patent number: 9097267
Abstract: A system to pressurize barrier fluid of a submersible installation to provide a differential pressure between the ambient pressure surrounding the submersible installation and the pressure of the barrier fluid internally in the submersible installation during submersion of the system, wherein the differential pressure fits within a predetermined differential pressure range. The system comprises a pre-charge arrangement and a pressure intensifier which is adapted to start working at a start-up pressure. The pre-charge arrangement is adapted, during submerging of the system, to provide a differential pressure within the predetermined differential pressure range until the ambient pressure equals the start up pressure of the pressure intensifier, while the pressure intensifier is adapted to provide a differential pressure within the predetermined differential pressure range when the ambient pressure equals the start-up pressure of the pressure intensifier during further submersion of the system.
