  • Patent number: 6991768
Abstract: An odor removal system to neutralize odors and VOC emissions in commercial and/or industrial air streams utilizes Non-Thermal Plasma (NTP) to create a range of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) to cause the oxidation and/or reduction of odor causing molecules and VOC's. The ROS is generated by drawing atmospheric and/or odorous air through a Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Generation Cell (DBDPGC). The gas is activated by passing it through the non-thermal plasma field in the DBDPGC, producing the ROS that are then immediately mixed into the odorous gas to be treated. If the odorous gas is passing through the NTP field, it is inherently mixed. When large volumes of gas, and/or extremely high odor loads in large gas volumes must be treated, multiple units can be combined in parallel. The DBDPGC has hermetically sealed hot electrodes and may be used in other applications.

  • Patent number: 6990930
Abstract: In one aspect, the invention provides a steam generation apparatus that is liquid fuel fired and addresses conversion of gaseous fuel SIB units to operate with liquid fuel. The invention also relates to a conversion unit for a steam injection boiler, a method for converting a steam injection boiler from gas firing to possible liquid fuel firing and a method for generating steam from a liquid fuel source. The invention employs a fired heater for heating the liquid fuel to a temperature suitable for firing and preheats the water to compensate for the shortfall in heat liberation when a gas boiler is converted to use liquid fuel. In another aspect of the invention, production of steam is achievable consistently by employing step-up heaters with a steam injection boiler. The heaters being connected in parallel to continue heating the water/steam to achieve a higher quality steam over that produced in the boiler while minimizing consideration as to the adverse effects of coil fouling in the boiler.

  • Patent number: 6992828
Abstract: A uniform optical attenuation system for high power detection comprises a detector unit (11), a plurality of diffusing elements (14, 15, 16, 17) for receiving and diffusing input light and an apertured plate (18, 19) for limiting light received by the detection unit to a portion only of the light diffused by the diffusing arrangement. The plurality of diffusing elements comprise a first diffusing element (12) for receiving and diffusing an input light beam to provide a distributed light source for a subsequent one of the diffusing elements, and final one of the diffusing elements which directs diffused light towards the detection unit. The light detected by the detection unit (11, 18, 19) is substantially independent of variations in numerical aperture of the input light. Each diffusing element may be a diffusing surface, such as a ground glass or opal diffuser, which renders the system substantially independent of variations in optical properties due to heating effects caused by the high energy light.

  • Patent number: 6986502
Abstract: A lightweight, low cost throttle body and throttle valve placed in the body, both formed of resins, that resolve the problem of excessively large gap formation is disclosed. Circumferentially oriented filler contained in a resin forming a throttle valve compensates to make the radial linear expansion coefficient of the throttle valve substantially equal to that of a bore. Grooves are formed on concentric circles in the throttle valve to orient filler circumferentially. A throttle valve provided with circumferentially oriented filler can be formed by impregnating an aggregate formed by circumferentially arranging the filler with a resin and curing the resin. A rib is formed in a part near a throttle shaft to control molding shrinkage so that the roundness of the bore is small.
