  • Patent number: 6855747
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of easily producing a long-lived ion sensitive film having excellent durability and used in an ion sensor. The method starts with preparing a monomer mixture consisting chiefly of monomer units including a functional group and a second group of bonded atoms. The functional group has a function of identifying a certain chemical substance. The second group can become an active species that induces a polymerization or bridging reaction by being irradiated with an electron beam or radiation. Then, the monomer mixture is irradiated with the electron beam or radiation in a low energy range. Thus, the monomer mixture is polymerized.

  • Patent number: 6856537
Abstract: A dummy cell has a plurality of dummy magneto-resistance elements which have the same characteristic as a magneto-resistance element, which characteristic changes corresponding to a voltage applied to the opposite ends. In addition, a voltage applied to opposite ends of each dummy magneto-resistance element is made smaller than a voltage applied to opposite ends of a magneto-resistance element of a memory cell. With this, the dummy cell is designed so as to have an intermediate electric resistance between first and second electric resistances.

  • Patent number: 6856398
Abstract: Apparatus for making wavelength-resolved polarimetric measurements comprises an interferometric source (10,12), for example a broadband source (10) and an optical interferometer unit (12), and a polarization generator unit (16) for generating different states of polarization of light received from the interferometric source and applying same to a device-under-test (30). A polarimeter unit (20) receives and polarimetrically-analyzes light from the device-under-test, converts the polarimetrically-analyzed light into electrical signals, and, using Fast Fourier Transform numerical analysis, computes therefrom the wavelength-resolved polarimetric measurements. Placing the optical interferometer unit (10,12) “upstream” not only of the device-under-test (30), but also of the polarisation generator unit (16), means that the latter substantially eliminates polarization dependent effects introduced by the former.

  • Patent number: 6855046
Abstract: A method of filling a natural hollow elongated casing with meat emulsion involves placing a natural casing on an elongated meat emulsion stuffing tube having a meat emulsion discharge end, closing an extended end of the natural casing over the discharge end of the stuffing tube so that meat emulsion exiting the discharge end will push the natural casing longitudinally by pumping meat emulsion through the stuffing tube for expansive discharge into the natural casing at a sufficient volume and velocity to provide the primary energy within the natural casing to move the natural casing forwardly off of the discharge end of the stuffing tube. The casing is extended through a hollow chuck. A resilient brake element in the chuck is extended around the casing to impede its longitudinal movement. A thrust collar is slidably mounted on the stuffing tube and is intermittently manually pushed against the casing to limit the length thereof but is insufficient to create compression pressure thereon.

  • Patent number: 6856466
Abstract: A series of optical elements is used to produce multiple simultaneous adjoining images on a single image plane. A first, intermediate, image is produced using the first telecentric imaging lens. This intermediate image is produced at a plane coincident with an adjustable-size rectangular field stop. The rectangular field stop is mounted in a sub-housing that allows its free rotation. A second telecentric lens collimates the light from the intermediate image. This collimated light is next passed through an optical splitting means, which uses the principal of refraction to separate the light into multiple components. The optical splitting means is mounted in a sub-housing that allows its free rotation. From here, the light next passes through a third and final lens, which produces a second, final, image on a single, planar detection device. The final image consists of a plurality of identical copies of the intermediate image.

  • Patent number: 6854329
Abstract: A wheel balancer includes a shaft adapted for receiving a wheel/tire assembly. The balancer has a longitudinal axis and is rotatable about the axis so as to rotate the wheel/tire assembly removably mounted thereon. A sensor assembly is provided for measuring rotation of the shaft about the longitudinal axis. A vibration sensor assembly measures vibration of the wheel/tire assembly as the wheel/tire assembly is rotated. A motor operatively connected to the shaft rotates the shaft about the longitudinal axis, thereby to rotate the wheel/tire assembly. A load roller applies a generally radial force, which can exceed one hundred fifty pounds, to the wheel/tire assembly during rotation of said wheel/tire assembly. A sensor detects lateral force, wheel/tire assembly radius, and/or wheel/tire assembly diameter, which can have a tendency to cause a vehicle on which the wheel/tire assembly is mounted during use to deviate from a straight line path.
