  • Patent number: 6776574
Abstract: A variable geometry turbine in which a turbine wheel is mounted to rotate about a pre-determined axis within a housing. A sidewall is displaceable relative to a surface of the housing to control the width of a gas inlet passage defined adjacent the wheel between the sidewall and the housing surface. The sidewall is supported on rods extending parallel to the wheel rotation axis, and the rods are displaced to control the displacement of the sidewall relative to the housing. The housing defines a chamber into which the rods extend such that one or more piston and cylinder arrangements are defined. The pressure within the chamber is controlled to control the axial position of the piston, the sidewall being displaced as a result of displacement of the piston.

  • Patent number: 6776771
Abstract: A balloon for use in surgical procedures, such as angioplasty. The balloon is configured as a balloon catheter with an axial series of segmented chambers, each connected to a tubular core that is adapted to a transport a pressurizable fluid source. The chambers are made of an elastically expandable material that inflates in response to the introduction of a pressurized fluid source. Each chamber includes a body lumen inner wall engaging surface and a pair of generally opposed flanges. Flexibly compliant links are disposed between adjacent chambers. These links may be integral with the flanges, or may constitute a separate hinge that couples the chambers at least to the central core. As the balloon is routed through a body lumen, curvature in the lumen is mimicked by the balloon, as it is able to flexibly conform to the shape of the lumen path by preferential bending at the flexibly compliant links.

  • Publication number: 20040155844
Abstract: Several driver circuits for energizing series arrays of LEDs are disclosed. The LED driver circuits incorporate programmable microcontrollers and switching regulators in circuits that permit precise control of current applied to the series array of LEDs. One driver circuit senses the condition of a SYNC line such that the light emission pattern of multiple LED light sources, each with a driver circuit connected to the SYNC line may be coordinated without need for a central controller. Another driver circuit applies an overdrive current to the LEDs for a first pre-determined time period, then ramps down the applied current to a sustainable level. A four channel driver circuit provides each channel with electronic switches arranged to simultaneously turn on and electrically connect a constant current source to an LED array, resulting in abrupt turn on and turn off of the LEDs.

  • Patent number: 6774362
Abstract: There is disclosed an analytical method capable of performing an analysis in electron microscopy by directing an electron beam at set analysis points wherein a reference image is displayed on a monitor and a user selects plural analysis points within the image. The specimen stage is returned to the approximate position where the reference image was obtained and a new image is obtained. At this time, the newly obtained image does not completely agree in position with the reference image due to accuracy of movement of the stage. The two images are supplied to a deviation amount calculator, which, in turn, compares the images and finds the amount of deviation of the newly obtained image from the reference image.

  • Patent number: 6775621
Abstract: The present invention provides a hybridization detection method capable of quantitatively determining the degree of the hybridization between a sample biopolymer and a probe biopolymer. In the method, the amount of a fluorescently labeled probe immobilized on a substrate as a spot is quantitatively determined by determining the fluorescence emitted from a fluorescent material labeling the probe, and the amount of a fluorescently labeled sample hybridized to the probe is quantitatively determined by determining the fluorescence emitted from the fluorescent material labeling the sample. The difference between the amount of the probe and the amount of the sample is normalized with the amount of the probe. Based on the normalized value, the amount of the sample hybridized to the probe can be determined relative to the amount of the probe spotted on the substrate.
