Patent number: 6779756Abstract: Arresting systems attachable to a tail-hook cable or other device for aircraft arrestment may have a total height of one foot, enabling above-ground installation at the edge of a runway. Arresting tapes are provided on horizontally positioned dual tape spools in a brake-in-spool configuration. With a friction disk brake assembly enclosed within the hub of each horizontal tape spool to control tape deployment by braking spool rotation during aircraft arrestment, overall system height is reduced. By use of disposable single-use spools, requirement for a tape rewind engine and related mechanisms are avoided. Spool hubs can be keyed to the exterior of a rotatable brake assembly portion to facilitate slidable tape spool installation and replacement. Pre-tensioned arresting tapes on tape spools can be employed for improved tape deployment. Computerized hydraulic brake assembly activation can be employed for controlled aircraft arrestment.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2003Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: Engineered Arresting Systems CorporationInventor: Edmond S. Patent number: 6780186Abstract: A polyaxial locking cervical screw and plate assembly for immobilization of cervical bones, via fixation to surfaces thereof, including a plate, having a pair of elongated tapered holes in the top and bottom thereof, into which holes elongated coupling elements and screws may be inserted. Each coupling element has an equivalent taper which matches the taper of the holes in the plate, and an interior semi-spherical curvate surface in which the curvate head of the screw may be polyaxially mounted. The coupling elements are initially disposed in the holes in the plate such that they may slide axially therein. The bone screws are inserted through the respective coupling elements until the heads thereof enter the curvate volumes thereof. Once the head is fully seated in the coupling element, advancement of the screw causes the coupling element to crush lock to the plate and to the head of the screw.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2001Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: Third Millennium Engineering LLCInventors: Joseph P. Patent number: 6779596Abstract: The present invention comprises a novel heat exchanger configuration which preferably uses the axial flow direction for the shell-side fluid and in which dead zones and areas of stagnation are significantly minimized or eliminated and in which inlet region tube erosion is addressed by providing a sacrificial portion of tube length so as to make repair and replacement of the eroded portion of tubes significantly cheaper, easier and with minimal process interruption. Because axial flow is employed with respect to the shell-side fluid according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, tube vibration problems are generally eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2002Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering CompanyInventors: Amar S. Patent number: 6779971Abstract: A turbine in which a turbine wheel is mounted in a housing between an inlet and an outlet. Rotatably mounted vanes are located in the inlet and coupled by linkages to an actuator which is displaceable relative to the vanes so as to control the angular orientation of the vanes relative to the housing inlet. Each vane is coupled to the actuator by a flexible link, the ends of the link being secured to the vanes and actuator in a manner which prevents relative movement between the link ends and the vane or the actuator. Flexing of the links thus accommodates the rotation of the vanes which results from actuator displacements.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2001Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: Holset Engineering Company, LimitedInventor: Stephen E. Patent number: 6780452Abstract: A method of creating curved sausage links involves extruding an elongated sausage strand having linear protein fibers therein out of an elongated hollow meat emulsion extrusion tube. The flow of meat emulsion through the tube is partially restricted by a restrictor element within the tube which permits a portion of the meat emulsion to pass thereover in a substantially uninterrupted manner, but which requires a separate layer of meat emulsion to have its movement through the tube inhibited by engaging the restrictor element and having to move thereover to exit the tube. When the sausage strand is subjected to heat, the uninterrupted portion is inclined to have more lengthwise shrinkage in the presence of heat than the other layer, thus causing the sausage link to assume a curved configuration. The machine for practicing this method has a stuffing tube with the restrictor element therein as described heretofore.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2001Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: Townsend Engineering CompanyInventors: Martinus W. Patent number: 6781882Abstract: It is an object to obtain a nonvolatile semiconductor storage device and a data erasing method thereof in which a time required for a data erasing operation can be shortened. When second and succeeding erasing commands are input at a step SP101, a final voltage value of a batch writing pulse in a last data erasing operation is read from a storage portion (2a) at a step SP102. At a step SP103, next, a control portion (2) sets a starting voltage value of a batch writing pulse in a present data erasing operation based on the final voltage value of the batch writing pulse in the last data erasing operation. For example, in the case in which the final voltage value of the batch writing pulse in the last data erasing operation is VWL=8.00 V and VWell=VSL=−6.00 V, the starting voltage value of the batch writing pulse is currently set to VWL=7.75 V and VWell=VSL=−5.75 V with a reduction of one step.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2002Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignees: Renesas Technology Corp., Mitsubishi Electric Engineering Co., Ltd.Inventors: Satoshi Shimizu, Mitsuhiro Tomoeda

Patent number: 6781431Abstract: The clock-generating circuit for generating a clock signal, includes a ring oscillator having an odd number of inverters connected in a ring configuration. The ring oscillator is activated to generate a clock signal when an activating signal is at a first level and is de-activated to cease generation of the clock signal when the activating signal is at a second level. A latch circuit is connected to an output node of the ring oscillator, and holds a level of the output node of the ring oscillator in response to transition of the activating signal from the first level to the second level. When the activating signal is lowered from the H level to the L level, the level of the clock signal is latched such that generation of a glitch in the clock signal will be prevented from occurring.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2003Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignees: Rensas Technology Corp., Mitsubishi Electric Engineering Company LimitedInventors: Yasuhiko Taito, Akira Yamazaki, Fukashi Morishita, Nobuyuki Fujii, Mihoko Akiyama, Mako Okamoto
