Abstract: A system 10 for detecting sliding of a wheel 12 on a rail 14 includes a roller 16 disposed adjacent the rail 14 so that a wheel 12 travelling along the rail 14 can engage the roller 16, and a tachometer 18 coupled with the roller 16 for providing a rotation signal representative of the degree of rotation of the roller. The system 10 includes a computer 20 which receives the rotation signal from the tachometer 18 and by using an appropriate rotation algorithm calculates the degree of rotation of the roller 16. The computer 20 then compares the degree of rotation with a predetermined range of roller rotations and, if the calculated degree of rotation of the roller is less than predicted by analysis, the apparatus 10 provides a signal indicative of the wheel 12 sliding.

  • Patent number: 6714775
Abstract: An interference canceller is described, wherein the interference canceller includes an input receiving an input composite signal, a reference circuit, and a cancellation circuit. The interference canceller derives its own reference signal. Internal derivation of the reference signal is accomplished by suppressing the desired signal included within a sampled quantum of a composite signal. The resultant reference signal is a likeness of the interference signal; containing substantially only the interference signal. The internally produced reference signal is amplitude and phase adjusted in a time-continuous fashion and summed with the composite signal in the cancellation circuit. The output of the cancellation circuit contains the desired signal and a substantially suppressed interference signal.

  • Patent number: 6714237
Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically storing an intrusion scene, and a method for controlling the apparatus using a wireless signal are provided. According to the apparatus and methods, an image is photographed every time a time interval elapses, converted into digital signals and stored. The stored signals are divided into a number of regions. The signals are sampled within each region, and data is extracted. It is determined whether an intrusion has occurred by comparing the extracted image data with image data extracted immediately before. If it is determined that intrusion occurred, scene data corresponding to the image data in which the intrusion is recognized is stored, and notification that an intrusion has occurred is wirelessly transmitted. Functions for these operations are set by a remote controller using keypads. By doing so, if an intruder intrudes into an area, the unmanned monitoring apparatus provides an intrusion alarm and at the same time photographs the intrusion scene.

  • Patent number: 6713870
Abstract: A wafer level chip-scale package comprises a chip including a plurality of metal pads individually formed on each of the bonding pads. In the same metal circuit layer where metal pads exist, bump pads are arranged in a matrix configuration, wherein almost all of them are electrically connected one by one to bonding pads through connection traces. Bump pad isolated by lacking connection trace has an extension portion of itself, and the resilient passivation layer does not overlay the bump pad and extension portion. There is a metal wire used to connect the extension portion of the bump pad with the corresponding metal pad, which is also not overlaid by the resilient passivation layer. Therefore, the metal wire can directly cross over other connection traces to achieve the electrical connection on a shorter route.

  • Patent number: 6711893
Abstract: A gasoline in a material fuel tank is separated into a high-RON fuel having a higher octane value than the material fuel and a low-RON fuel having a lower octane value than the material fuel, by a separator device equipped with a separation membrane. Using a fuel switching mechanism, one or both of the high-RON fuel and the low-RON fuel are supplied to the engine in accordance with the state of operation of the engine. As the octane value of a fuel can be changed in accordance with the engine operation state, the state of combustion in the engine improves, so that both an increase in engine output and an improvement in an exhaust property can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6713423
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a method of thermally reactivating activated carbon via a two-step process: steam followed by pyrolysis; whereby the steam is preferably deoxygenated. Activated carbons reactivated by this method resemble their virgin counterpart's physical characteristics (e.g., BET surface area) and often perform better in water treatment. The present invention also includes a method of reactivating activated carbon via conventional processes (i.e. pyrolysis followed by steam) at low dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations. The third aspect of the present invention is the activation of carbonaceous material comprising of steam treating the carbonaceous material followed by pyrolysis.
