  • Publication number: 20200389027
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a recloser control that provides autosynchronization of a microgrid to an area electric power system (EPS). For example, a recloser control may include an output connector that is communicatively coupled to a recloser at a point of common coupling (PCC) between the area EPS and the microgrid. The recloser control may include a processor that acquires a first set of measurements indicating electrical characteristics of the area EPS and acquires a second set of measurements indicating electrical characteristics of the microgrid. The recloser control may send synchronization signals to a microgrid controller to synchronize the microgrid controller based on the first set of measurements and the second set of measurements.

  • Publication number: 20200389048
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a recloser control that detects islanding based on a continuous analysis of frequency and rate of change of frequency. For example, a recloser control may include protection circuitry that is communicatively coupled to a recloser. The recloser control may receive measurements of an electrical characteristic in an electric power delivery system. The recloser control may determine frequency(F) and a rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) based on the received measurements. The recloser control may detect islanding of a microgrid in the electric power delivery system based at least in part on F and ROCOF. The recloser control may send a signal to the recloser to trip the recloser based on the islanding of the microgrid.

  • Publication number: 20200388432
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure relate to apparatuses for enhanced thermal management of an inductor assembly using functionally-graded thermal vias for heat flow control in the windings of the inductor. In one embodiment, a PCB for an inductor assembly includes a top surface and a bottom surface. Two or more electrically-conductive layers are embedded within the PCB and stacked vertically between the top surface and the bottom surface. The two or more electrically-conductive layers are electrically connected to form an inductor winding. A plurality of thermal vias thermally connects each of the two or more electrically-conductive layers to a cold plate thermally connected to the bottom surface. A number of thermal vias thermally connecting each electrically-conductive layer to the cold plate is directly proportional to a predetermined rate of heat dissipation from the electrically-conductive layer.

  • Patent number: 10859101
Abstract: A soft-bodied actuator can be configured to be in a pinched or contracted configuration when power is not supplied to the actuator. Thus, a supply of electrical energy is not needed to maintain the actuator in the pinched or contracted configuration. The actuator can include a central bladder. The central bladder can include a flexible casing that defines a central fluid chamber. The central fluid chamber can include a dielectric fluid. A first conductor and a second conductor can be operatively connected to opposite portions of the central bladder. The actuator can be configured such that, in the activated mode, the first and second conductors receive electrical energy from a power source such that they are like charged, causing the first and second conductors to repel each other. The central fluid chamber can include a particulate material to help maintain the central bladder in the pinched configuration.

  • Patent number: 10859721
Abstract: A computer-implemented method of enhancing a computer to estimate an uncertainty of an onset of a signal of interest in time-series noisy data. A first mathematical model of first time series data that contains only noise is calculated. A second mathematical model of second time series data that contains the noise and an onset of a signal of interest in the second time series data is calculated. A difference is evaluated between a first combination, being the first mathematical model and the second mathematical model, and a second combination, being the first time series data and the second time series data, wherein evaluating is performed using a generalized entropy metric. A specific time when an onset of the signal of interest occurs is estimated from the difference. An “a posteriori” distribution is derived for an uncertainty of the specific time at which the onset occurs.

  • Patent number: 10862825
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for token-based access to an intelligent electronic device (IED) resource in a power delivery system. A token server and an IED resource may be communicatively connected via a communication network. The token server may generate a token associated with access privileges to one or more IED resources. The token server associates an access duration time with the generated token. The user presents the IED resource with the token as part of an access attempt. The IED resource grants access at a first time defined with reference to the device uptime of the IED resource until a second time defined with reference to the device up time. The difference between the first time and the second time corresponds to the access duration time of the token.
