  • Patent number: 10774647
Abstract: A method of casting a rotor using a cavity and core mold allows a longitudinal slot oriented transversely to the axis of rotation to be finish ground to high precision and tight tolerances by casting the slot to have a wider section which extends from the axis to a radius greater than the radii of the hubs of the rotor, and a narrower section which extends from the wider section to the outer surface of the rotor. The geometrical relation of the slot sections to the hubs as cast permits the grinding step to be performed without forming a leak path in either of the hubs.

  • Patent number: 10770262
Abstract: A scanning electron microscope (SEM) system includes an SEM objective that emits an electron beam toward a sample, causing emission of charged particles including secondary electrons, Auger electrons, backscattered electrons, anions and cations. The SEM system includes electron optics elements that are configured to establish electric fields around the sample that accelerate charged particles toward a detector. A two-dimensional distribution of locations of incidence of the charged particles on the detector is indicative of energies of the charged particles and their emission angles from the sample. A three-dimensional spatial distribution of charged particles emitted from the sample is recovered by performing an Abel transform over the distribution on the detector. The energies and emission angles of the charged particles are then determined from the three-dimensional spatial distribution.

  • Patent number: 10766106
Abstract: A simplified drive press system is operable to press-fit a pair of first workpieces into a second workpiece. The drive press system uses a simplified mechanical arrangement to translate an input torque into movement of a pair of drive arms toward and away from one another. Yokes of differing configurations may be attached to the drive arms to accommodate a variety of different workpieces. A nut runner may be used to supply a drive torque to the gear assembly and provide a controlled input torque and control the movement of the drive arms. An overall reduction may be utilized that balances a desired movement resolution with the desire to detect changes in input torque. The nut runner may be programmable to provide a desired movement of the drive arms while monitoring the input torque to detect when a fully press-fitted condition is realized.
