    Abstract: Energized lens systems and methods of fabricating an energized lens system which can be switched from one polarization-independent focal length to another polarization-independent focal length. The energized lens system can include a 90 degree twisted nematic liquid crystal layer with curved boundaries, and with transparent conductive electrodes which allow the application of an electric field to switch the focal length of the twisted nematic liquid crystal layer. The focal length of the energized lens system can be independent of the polarization of light in both of its two states, and only one liquid crystal layer of the energized lens system needs to be switched in order for the focal length of the energized lens system to be switched.

    Abstract: An electrospinning device is provided with a container for holding a liquid comprising a polymer melt or a polymer solution, and a nozzle arranged to outlet a stream of the liquid from the container. A collector collects electro spun material during electrospinning so as to form a fibrous structure. The device comprises an optical measurement system that measures a baseline distance between the collector and the optical measurement system for at least one location on a surface of the collector, and also measures a momentary distance between the optical measurement system and a momentary top layer of the fibrous structure during the electrospinning process. A processor calculates a momentary thickness of the fibrous structure. Once a required thickness is reached the electrospinning can be stopped.

    Abstract: The present disclosure pertains to systems and methods for selectively encrypting data flows within a software defined network (SDN). In one embodiment, a communication device may be configured to receive a plurality of unencrypted data packets. The communication device may receive from an SDN controller a criterion used to identify at least one of the unencrypted data flows to be encrypted. Based on the criterion, an encryption subsystem may generate an encrypted data flow the unencrypted data packets based on an encryption key. In some embodiments, the encryption system may parse the packets and encrypt the data payloads without encrypting the routing information associated with the packet. In other embodiments, the encryption subsystem may be configured to encapsulate and encrypt the entire unencrypted data packet. In some embodiments, the encryption subsystem may further be configured to authenticate a sending device and/or to verify the integrity of a message.

    Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for a crankcase breather vent assembly to direct blow-by gases out of an engine crankcase. A vent base comprising a generally cylindrical vessel communicates received blow-by gases into an interior cavity of a breather vent that comprises a filter medium. Baffles disposed within an interior cavity of the vent base capture oil carried along with the blow-by gases. The captured oil is directed to an oil sump of the engine by way of a suitable hose. A bonnet fastenably receives the breather vent and is configured to reduce a buildup of oil residue on nearby engine components. An outer profile of the breather vent is tapered along a longitudinal dimension of the filter medium to facilitate unrestricted air flow through the filter medium when the bonnet is installed onto the breather vent.

    Abstract: A valve operator system having an arm for pivotal mounting to a vehicle and a valve operator head slidingly engaged with a track on the arm. The arm may be pivoted through a wide arc to easily reach a target valve, with the valve operator head easily slid into position. The valve operator head preferably includes a series of rollers that engage longitudinal rods positioned in the opposing rails of a track mounted to the arm. A single track on top of the arm may be used, or two tracks positioned on opposing side surfaces of the arm. Pins or a locking bolt may be used to affix the valve operator head in place once moved into the desired position above the target valve and the arm can be locking into position with a drum brake or locking pins.
