  • Patent number: 10248111
Abstract: A decision support tool to assist decision-making in the operation of a facility. The decision support tool allows a user to perform operational programming of the facility so that the analysis of specific operational events is flexible and “on-demand.” This is achieved by allowing the user to set scope and timeframe of the analysis according to business needs. As a result, the organization can make better-informed judgments whether to add operational activities and how to adjust the ones already formulated in the program. The decision support tool can also allow for the application of strategies to communicate intent behind the programming instructions and to improve the quality of business decisions.

  • Patent number: 10246969
Abstract: A valve apparatus (10) comprises a housing (12) defining a flow path (14), a valve seat (42) located within the housing (12) around a periphery of the flow path (14), a carriage member (16) located within the housing (12), a cutting arrangement (28) mounted on the carriage member (16), and a valve member (32) mounted on the carriage member (16) via a connection assembly (34) which permits relative movement between the valve member (32) and the carriage member (16). The carriage member (16) is moveable from a first position towards a second position to drive the cutting arrangement (28) across the flow path (14) and to move the valve member (32) into a position in which relative movement between the valve member (32) and the carriage member (16) permits the valve member (32) to sealingly engage and disengage the valve seat (42) to control flow along the flow path (14).

  • Patent number: 10251313
Abstract: Disclosed is the redirection of air flow in a sub-plenum using a multi-directional plume that is attached to the bottom surface of an air-grate floor panel. The air-grate floor panel 102 has openings which allow redirected air to flow in an upward direction to cool computer equipment, including servers. The multi-directional plume has a series of vanes that are disposed in various different directions to deflect a flow of air conditioning air through a sub-plenum in a vertical direction to flow through openings in the air-grate floor panel. Since the multi-directional plume is capable of redirecting air from various different directions in the sub-plenum, the air-grate floor panels do not have to be repositioned to capture air flow from any particular direction.

  • Patent number: 10247676
Abstract: A thermal microring optical sensor is configured such that a portion of the optical resonator and its associated waveguide are encased within a cladding structure to minimize scattering losses along the waveguide and also provide improved evanescent coupling efficiency between the waveguide and the resonator. Functioning as a thermal sensor, incoming radiation modifies the temperature of the resonator, which changes its resonant frequency and, as a result, the percentage of light that it evanescently couples from the waveguide. The cladding structure also functions as a mechanical support for the resonator disk, eliminating the need for a pedestal to suspend the disk above the support substrate. Thermally-induced buckling of the optical waveguide is also reduced by encasing the susceptible portion of the waveguiding within the cladding structure.

  • Patent number: 10246790
Abstract: The invention relates to electrowinning of aluminum from cryolite-alumina melts, and can be used in the shunt design of a cathode assembly. In an aluminum electrolysis cell, cathode vertical metal shunts, are designed such that their top part is melted aluminum, and the bottom part is solid aluminum. Shunts are located in conduits made in a hearth slab lining which has a widening in the middle part which is wider than both parts of the shunts. The widening in the shunt conduit can be filled with a composite material, i.e. titanium diboride-carbon. The shunts can be designed as a tube, and the widening in the conduit and the space inside the tube can be filled with the composite material titanium diboride-carbon. The invention makes it possible to increase the electrical efficiency due to the absence of contact assemblies, reduced current loss, and achieving an effective current distribution and current shunting.
