Patent number: 5089661Abstract: A new process is described for the preparation of a 2-aryl-propionic acid, such as for instance 2-[4-(2-methyl-propyl)phenyl]propionic or 2-(6'-methoxy-2'-naphthyl)propionic acid, through hydrogenation of a complex salt which consists of the mono- and/or di-valent anion of the corresponding 2-hydroxy-2-aryl-propionic acid, a di- or tri-valent metal cation, such as for instance Al(+3), Fe(+3), Zn(+2), or Mg(+2), and optionally other anonic or neutral ligands. This new process is particularly advantageous in that the starting salt can be obtained directly via electrocarboxylation of the corresponding aryl methyl ketone, e.g. 4-(2-methyl-propyl)acetophenone or (6-methoxy-2-naphthyl) methyl ketone, with metal anodes which dissolve during the electrolysis.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1990Date of Patent: February 18, 1992Assignee: Enichem Synthesis S.p.A.Inventors: Federico Maspero, Oreste Piccolo, Ugo Romano, Salvatore Gambino
-
Patent number: 5084147Abstract: A process of oxidation or reduction of organic substrates by an indirect electrochemical route is described. During oxidation, the electrochemical stage produces a metallic oxide having higher valence such as RuO.sub.2, NiOOH, which is applied to an inert conductor support. The supported metallic oxide of higher valence is separated from the aqueous electrolyte and is then placed in contact with the pure organic material to be reacted on. The metallic oxide in this manner is reduced to a lower valence and is subjected to a new electrochemical oxidation after the residues of the organic material are removed. The process consists of a cyclic repetition of these stages. The process of reduction of organic substrates is analogous and is carried out by means of the hydrogen of hydrides formed through a cathodic charge by electrolysis of an aqueous solution.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1989Date of Patent: January 28, 1992Assignees: Giuseppe Bianchi, Franco Valsecchi, Enichem Synthesis S.p.A.Inventors: Giuseppe Bianchi, Franco Valsecchi, Giovanni Burei

Patent number: 5021338Abstract: An enzyme system for hydrolysis of protein material from plant and animal sources is obtained by extracting germinated sorghum seeds. The enzyme system contains a proteolytic component active on intact proteins and large peptides at an optimum pH of 3.2 to 4.2 and a peptidase component active on small peptides at an optimum pH of 4.5 to 6.5. A protein hydrolyzate having an average molecular weight within a selected range can be obtained by varying the pH so as to depress activity of the proteolytic component or the peptidase component. The protein hydrolysates which are obtained are characterized by the absence of bitter taste. Furthermore, by suitably adjusting the enzyme concentration in the reaction medium, the temperature and the hydrolysis time, protein hydrolyzates with an average molecular weight lower than 700 and a low percentage of free amino acids can be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1988Date of Patent: June 4, 1991Assignees: Eniricerche S.p.A., Enichem Synthesis S.p.A.Inventors: Roberto Gianna, Enrico De Gregoriis, Renzo Boni
