  • Patent number: 7351469
Abstract: A method for producing surface coatings on articles, such as stick surfaces, coats at least a part of the surface with a coating. The coating has expandable particles. One surface region of the coating is treated so that the particles expand, while another surface region of the coating remains untreated. The corresponding article, such as a stick, has a surface provided at least partly with a coating with said expandable particles. The particles of the coating are expanded in one surface region thereof and unexpanded in another surface region. The former surface region projects beyond the surface of the latter surface region.

  • Patent number: 6837637
Abstract: A wood-encased pencil for writing, sketching, drawing, and cosmetic purposes includes grip surfaces or grip nubs projecting from at least one surface thereof as handling raised structures. The structures are of a plastic material and are applied in the form of an initially flowable preparation which includes at least one plastic and that later solidifies to give the raised structures. In a first variant, the preparation is anhydrous and is of a radiation-curable plastic. In a second variant, the preparation is, likewise, anhydrous, but its solidification is based on physical drying. For such a purpose, the preparation is of an organic solvent as well as a plastic.

  • Patent number: 6579530
Abstract: A make-up stick or crayon contains the following essential components: polyether-1: 3.0 weight % mica: 69.0 weight % PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate): 28.0 weight % Based on this starting formulation, the powdery components can be mixed by adding water in amounts of 20-40 weight %. The homogeneous mass is subsequently extruded to form a rope which is then cut into lengths.

  • Patent number: 6461067
Abstract: A wood-encased pencil has raised structures formed of a synthetic material. The raised structures project above the surface at which the pencil is held and the structures form handling or gripping surfaces to increase the gripability of the pencil. The raised structures are formed by applying to the pencil an initially flowable plastic composition that later solidifies to form the raised structures. The plastic composition has, as a principal constituent, an aqueous polymer dispersion that hardens to become water-resistant.

  • Patent number: 6316526
Abstract: A simplified method for producing a lead for color pencils, cosmetic pencils and colored chalk with good down stroke behavior involves mixing powdered or granular base materials containing a thermolabile, polymeric binding agent, inorganic filler materials and a coloring agent with water and then extruding the mixed materials to form raw leads, which extruded material is subsequently heat treated at the binding agent decomposition temperature for a time sufficient to partially decompose the binding agent. Enough water is mixed with the base material to achieve a lead mass of approximately 5 parts by weight of base material and 1 part by weight of water.

  • Patent number: 6293720
Abstract: A pencil having an axially-movable core, particularly a soft-core pencil, for example a cosmetic pencil. The pencil has a sleeve-shaped pencil body with a core opening on the side of the tip, a core-driving part that holds the core and is seated to be axially movable in the pencil body, and a rotating sleeve that is disposed coaxially to the core and the pencil body is seated to be rotatably and axially fixed and cooperates directly or indirectly with the core-driving part in the manner of a spindle gear. At least one longitudinal section of the rotating sleeve that is remote from the tip is surrounded by the pencil body. Also, the circumferential wall of the pencil body that surrounds the rotating sleeve has at least one actuation window, and the rear end of the core is inserted so as to be rotatably and axially fixed into a front section of the core-driving part that is embodied as a core-retaining part having a tube-section shape.

  • Patent number: 6074115
Abstract: In a set of colored pencils, a cut-out is formed in the longitudinal surface of each pencil to expose the lead so that the color or hue of the pencil is immediately identifiable. The pencils are useful as a puzzle type game because they have flat surfaces with markings which, when the pencils are arranged in a determined sequence, collectively form an integral configurative pattern. The integral configurative pattern is formed of a plurality of pattern portions which are the markings on the individual pencils.
