  • Patent number: 7374176
Abstract: The subject invention provides a method of manufacturing a multi-layered steel gasket assembly including a plurality of steel gasket layers each having a predetermined electrical resistance and including at least one coating layer of a material having an electrical resistance substantially greater than that of the steel gasket layers. The method includes the steps of: applying the coating layer of the selected material to at least one surface of at least one of the steel gasket layers to provide at least one coated gasket layer; assembling the coated gasket layer with at least one other steel gasket layer such that the coating layer prevents the use of traditional resistance welding in joining the gasket layers; and thereafter welding the assembled gasket layers together by either a JAG or CO2 laser to form the multi-layered steel gasket assembly.

  • Patent number: 7344311
Abstract: An improved bearing for use in movable sockets and suspension joints. The improved bearing is annular, having an outer dimension sized to seat within the housing of a suspension joint or movable socket. An inner surface of the bearing is configured to receive the head of an articulating stud within the housing. Three or more radial slots are disposed on the inner surface. Each radial slot disposed on one-half of the bearing inner surface has a unique radial dimension, such that the radial slots are optimally configured to minimize stress and stiffness within the improved bearing, whereby the bearing can be seated within the housing in a radially and rotationally locked configuration, but remain movable in an axial direction.

  • Patent number: 7338626
Abstract: A rubber injection molding apparatus and method for simultaneously molding a plurality of work parts (40) in separate molds (30) using a single, vertically oriented press machine (22). A clamping mechanism (52) is responsive to the vertical, reciprocating motion of the press ram (26) for converting the generally vertical motion of the press ram (26) into a horizontal clamping force to squeeze and hold the molds while rubber is injected into their cavities (38). The molds (30) each have two mold halves (32, 34) joining one another along a parting line interface (36) with the mold cavity (38) in between. The mold halves (32, 34) are received in universal carriers (62), which in turn are suspended between and slideable along spaced-apart first (58) and second (60) rails. A large number of mold cavities (38) can be filled simultaneously using a vertically oriented press machine (22).

  • Patent number: 7316401
Abstract: A static gasket assembly having a grid-like carrier (10, 10?) formed as a mesh of overlapping strands. Openings (16-22) are created strategically in the carrier (10, 10?) with the severed ends of the strands forming cantilever stems (12) projecting inwardly. Any one of a variety of specially configured sealing elements (24, 30, 32, 36, 38) are pressed into the respective openings (16-22) with the cantilever stems (12) engaging a peripheral groove (26) in each sealing element to retain the respective sealing elements in position. The gasket assembly is then placed over a surface to be sealed (40) and the carrier (10, 10?) can either be removed, or remain as a permanent fixture of the gasket assembly.

  • Patent number: 7306235
Abstract: A manifold gasket includes a carrier frame with a plurality of media-conveying openings corresponding to openings communicating between two parts to be clamped, such as an intake manifold and a cylinder head. Elastomeric sealing material is molded to the carrier frame about the openings to seal the openings when clamped. A compression limiting device is disposed on the carrier frame and is isolated from direct contact with the carrier frame by intervening elastomeric bonding material to limit compression of said elastomeric sealing material when the gasket is clamped between the head and block. The elastomeric bonding material renders the compression limiting device free-floating relative to the carrier frame.

  • Patent number: 7284882
Abstract: An LED light module assembly for use with high power, high light output LED's includes a thin flexible circuit board with surface mounted LED's and other electronic components which is attached to a metal heat sink using a layer of a thermally conductive adhesive, such as a thermally conductive epoxy adhesive. A conduction path is provided from the LED carrier through the flexible circuit board by the incorporation of one or more thermally conductive vias in the region of the attachment pad used to bond the LED to the flexible circuit board. These vias provide a conduction path from the back side of the LED carrier through the circuit board to the thermally conductive adhesive and heat sink. The LED light module assembly has the capacity to dissipate between about 10-14 W of power without exceeding a maximum LED junction temperature of about 125° C.
