  • Patent number: 7996952
Abstract: A wiper arm assembly and method of assembly thereof includes a mounting head and a wiper arm configured for relative rotation during assembly from a disassembled position to a shipping position, wherein the wiper arm and mounting head are locked against rotation toward the disassembled position once in the shipping position. The mounting head and wiper arm have locking surfaces configured for locked engagement with one another while in the shipping position. The locking surfaces are brought into engagement with one another by a force imparted by a spring while rotating the mounting head relative to the wiper arm from the disassembled position toward the shipping position. When in the shipping position, the locking surfaces confront each other and prevent the mounting head and the wiper arm from rotating back toward the disassembled position from the shipping position.

  • Patent number: 7967298
Abstract: An elongated elastomeric gasket (10) seals a pair of opposing flanges (12, 14) against the passage of liquid without compressing the flanges (12, 14) together. A reinforcing spring (32) is embedded within the elastomeric gasket (10) and is shaped so as to react when deflected by the operation of installing the gasket (10) into an operative position between the flanges (12, 14). A strategically located U-shaped bend (34) formed in the reinforcing spring (32) causes, in a preferred embodiment, contact pressure to be increased between opposed sealing beads at the other end of the gasket. More specifically, lateral contact pressure between a first pair of sealing beads (24) and their associated contact faces (38) is increased as a direct result of the reinforcing spring (32) being displaced during the assembly process.

The firing tip includes a discharge end and a weld end, with the weld end being connected to a center electrode, and more specifically to a base electrode on the center electrode. The weld end has a coefficient of thermal expansion, which is not between the values for the coefficients of thermal expansion for the discharge end and the base electrode. More specifically, the weld end has a coefficient of thermal expansion which is greater than the coefficients of thermal expansion for the discharge end and base electrode. The weld end is formed from Nickel and Chromium with a limited amount of additional elements. The spark plug is assembled by providing a first elongated material formed from the material used for the discharge end and a second elongated material formed from a material used for the weld end.

  • Patent number: 7923909
Abstract: An ignition device for an internal combustion engine and method of construction therefore includes a housing with an insulator secured therein. A center electrode is mounted within the insulator. A ground electrode extends from the housing with a portion of the ground electrode defining a spark gap across from the center electrode. At least a selected one of the center electrode or ground electrode has a platinum or platinum-based alloy firing tip. A resistance weld joint bonds the firing tip to the selected electrode and defines a lower surface of the firing tip that is embedded a first distance beneath an outer surface of the selected electrode. A continuous bead of overlapping laser weld pools is formed over an outer periphery of the firing tip. The overlapping weld pools extend a second distance beneath the outer surface of the selected electrode, with the second distance being greater than the first distance.

  • Patent number: 7887063
Abstract: The subject invention provides a gasket for sealing multiple fluids and a method of forming the gasket. The gasket includes a carrier, a first elastomeric material, and a second elastomeric material different than the first elastomeric material. The first and second elastomeric materials are disposed in contact with the carrier in a flowable state such that the first and the second materials flow together to form a third elastomeric material comprising a mixture of the first and second elastomeric materials. The first and second elastomeric materials include cure systems that are compatible to ensure sufficient bonding within the third elastomeric material. Adhesive materials that are compatible with each of the first, second, and third elastomeric materials and the carrier are used to bond the elastomeric materials to the carrier.

  • Patent number: 7867374
Abstract: An apparatus and method of electrochemical machining utilizes a computer controlled static array of electrically insulated cathode sections to selectively and individually energize the electrodes for the purpose of shaping the surface of a part. The tightly clustered array of electrodes can be formed by individual wires as an example. The waste reaction products may be managed so as to improve machining accuracy. The electrodes can be composed of materials capable of generating an oxide layer or that resist electrolytic dissolution to combat the problem of crossover erosion in closely spaced conditions. An alternative approach to remedy crossover erosion is to extend the reach of insulation into the gap space between tool and part.
