  • Patent number: 10302529
Abstract: An integrating sphere-equipped optical measurement device and optical connector polarity and type identification and loss measurement are provided. The optical measurement device includes at least two photodetectors that are optically responsive over different ranges of wavelengths. The optical measurement device receives one or more optical signals emanate from optical fibers of an optical fiber cable. The optical measurement device determines an optical intensity or loss of the one or more optical signals based on a measurement made by a corresponding photodetector whose responsivity range includes a wavelength of the one or more optical signals. The optical measurement device determines one or more respective positions where the one or more optical signals impinged on a sensor. The optical measurement device determines a polarity of the optical fiber cable based on both the one or more positions and one or more or transmitting positions of the one or more optical signals, respectively.

  • Patent number: 10302793
Abstract: A method and apparatus for blending and display of radio frequency in-wall imagery are provided. In the method and apparatus, an RF sensor assembly receives an RF signal for capturing an RF image of one or more objects including an electricity-bearing object disposed in a space behind a surface, a voltage sensor detects a presence of the electricity-bearing object disposed in the space behind the surface and a processor determines the RF image based on the data representing the RF signal, identifies a position of the electricity-bearing object in the RF image based on the data indicating the presence of the electricity-bearing object and a relative position of the sensory field to the RF sensor assembly and generates, based on the RF image, a composite image in which the electricity-bearing object is marked.

  • Patent number: 10305586
Abstract: An optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) is provided. The OTDR emits a first optical signal that is an impulse optical signal having a non-zero power during a first period of time, where the first period of time is shorter than a period of time necessary for the first optical signal to traverse a length of an optical fiber under test. The OTDR emits a second optical signal that is an impulse optical signal having a non-zero power during a second period of time longer than a period of time necessary for the second optical signal to traverse the length of the optical fiber. The OTDR receives data representative of a third and fourth optical signals that are reflections of the first and second optical signals, respectively, by the optical fiber and generates an optical time-domain reflectometry signal based at least in part on the third and fourth optical signals.

  • Patent number: 10271020
Abstract: Systems can include a tool configured to generate a first set of data representative of an object and a control station configured to receive the first set of data from the tool. A mobile device in communication with the control station can receive data from the control station including information regarding the object based on the data received from the tool. A user of the mobile device, such as a technician, can travel to the location of the tool, and, when the mobile device is within a predetermined proximity of the tool, the tool can communicate directly with the mobile device. The technician can use the mobile device to communicate with and control the tool in order to safely perform equipment analysis.

  • Patent number: 10254375
Abstract: Systems and methods provide a portable, verified voltage source that allows safe testing of separate non-contact voltage measurement systems. A proving unit of the present disclosure provides a known or specified alternating current (AC) voltage output across an insulated wire, which AC voltage may be fixed or may be user-selectable through a suitable user interface. The proving unit may include a visual indicator and/or an audible indicator that provides the user with an indication confirming that the proving unit is supplying an output voltage with the specifications of the proving unit, so the user will know that the proving unit is operating normally and is ready for testing a non-contact voltage measurement system. If the proving unit cannot provide the specified voltage output, the indicator(s) provides a signal to the user that the proving unit is currently non-functional. The proving unit may additionally verify contact voltage measurement systems (e.g., DMMs).

  • Patent number: 10254398
Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) imaging device comprising a display receives a three-dimensional (3D) image that is a superposition of two or more images having different image types including at least a 3D RF image of a space disposed behind a surface. A plurality of input control devices receive a user input for manipulating the display of the 3D image. Alternatively or additionally, the radio frequency (RF) imaging device may receive a three-dimensional (3D) image that is a weighted combination of a plurality of images including a 3D RF image of a space disposed behind a surface, an infrared (IR) image of the surface, and a visible light image of the surface. A user input may specify changes to the weighted combination. In another embodiment, the RF imaging device may include an output device that produces a physical output indicating a detected type of material of an object in the space.

  • Patent number: 10217210
Abstract: Aspects of the invention generally relate to illumination gas imaging and detection. Camera systems can illuminate a target scene with light sources configured to emit absorbing and non-absorbing wavelengths with respect to a target gas. An image of the target scene illuminated with a non-absorbing wavelength can be compared to a non-illuminated image of the target scene in order to determine information about the background of the target scene. If sufficient light of the non-absorbing wavelength is scattered by the scene toward a detector, the target scene comprises an adequate background for performing a gas imaging process. A camera system can alert a user of portions of the target scene suitable or unsuitable for performing a gas imaging process. If necessary, the user can reposition the system until sufficient portions of the target scene are recognized as suitable for performing the gas imaging process.

  • Patent number: 10209357
Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) imaging device comprises an RF sensor assembly, a position sensor, a processor, and a memory. The RF sensor assembly receives an RF signal for capturing an RF image of a portion of a space behind a surface. The position sensor receives a plurality of signals respectively emitted by a plurality of position markers at known positions relative to the surface. The processor determines a plurality of angles at which the plurality of signals respectively arrive at the position sensor and determines, based on the plurality of angles and the known positions of the plurality of position markers, a position of the RF imaging device relative to the surface. The memory stores the RF image in association with the determined position of the RF imaging device. A time-of-flight or triangulation of signal data may be used for position determination.
