Abstract: A method for performing magnetic resonance angiography and perfusion imaging using the same pulse sequence is provided. Time-resolved image data is acquired as a contrast agent passes through a subject. This image data is acquired by sampling Cartesian points in k-space that are contained within either a central region of k-space, or one of a plurality of different sets of radial sectors extending outwards from the central region. The image data is combined to form individual image frame data sets that are then reconstructed to produce a time series of image frames. From this time series, MR angiograms and perfusion maps are produced. With the added acquisition of calibration data, T1 relaxation parameters are estimated and quantitative perfusion maps produced.

Abstract: A method of synthesis of para-substituted benzoate esters and acids is provided, wherein the para-substituted regioisomer is obtained substantially free of the meta-substituted impurity, the method comprising contacting a coumalate ester or acid and an unactivated alkene at elevated temperature in the presence of a metal oxidation catalyst and an oxidant. The metal oxidation catalyst can be palladium, such as palladium on carbon, and the oxidant can be the oxygen gas in ambient air. The reaction can be carried out without solvent or in high boiling hydrocarbon solvents such as mesitylene. When the unactivated alkene is a monosubstituted alkene, yields of at least about 50 or 60% of para-substituted ester and acid products, respectively, are obtained, substantially free of the regioisomeric meta-substituted impurity.

Abstract: A method for producing parametric maps using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system is provided. The MRI system is used to acquire k-space data from a field-of-view. A series of images is reconstructed from the acquired k-space data, and a confidence map is produced using the k-space data. The confidence map depicts regions in the field-of-view that are affected by error sources. A parametric map is produced using the reconstructed series of images and the produced confidence map. Values in the parametric map associated with regions in the field-of-view depicted in the confidence map as being affected by error sources are not computed, thereby reducing errors in the parametric map.

Abstract: The invention relates to processes and biocatalysts for producing ethanol and other useful products from biomass and/or other materials. Initial processing of lignocellulosic biomass frequently yields methylglucuronoxylose (MeGAX) and related products which are resistant to further processing by common biocatalysts. Strains of Enterobacter asburiae are shown to be useful in bioprocessing of MeGAX and other materials into useful bioproducts such as ethanol, acetate, lactate, and many others. Genetic engineering may be used to enhance production of desired bioproducts.
