Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to alternating donor-acceptor (DA) polymers that are soluble and display a blue or green neutral state that oxidizes to a transmissive state for use as an electrochromic polymer. The D units have 3,4-dioxythiophene, 3,6-dialkoxythieno[3,2-b]thiophene or 3,5-dialkoxy-dithieno[3,2-b:2?,3?-d]thiophene groups. Embodiments of the invention are directed to a method for preparation of the alternating DA polymeric sequences of the DA polymers by a cross-condensation of a nucleophilic acceptor monomer and an electrophilic donor monomer.

Abstract: A magnetic field generation system includes first (28a) and second (28b) magnetic flux concentrators spaced apart to form a sample volume (30). A first set of auxiliary permanent magnets (10a, 10b) can be symmetrically oriented about and in contact with a portion of the first magnetic flux concentrator (28a). Similarly, a second set of auxiliary permanent magnets (10c, 10d) can be symmetrically oriented about and in contact with a portion of the second magnetic flux concentrator (28b). The first(10a, 10b) and second (10c, 10d) sets of auxiliary magnets can be magnetically associated via the first (28a) and second (28b) magnetic flux concentrators. Magnetically soft shunts (38) can be movably oriented to allow variation of the magnetic field strength across the sample volume by disrupting the field flux across the magnetic flux concentrators.

Abstract: The invention is a novel family of polyolefins characterized by chain-walking defects of the type that add extra backbone carbons per monomer. These polyolefins display a large decrease in crystallinity relative to polyolefins known in the art. Specifically, the reduction in crystallinity is much greater than for earlier polypropylenes with a matched content of stereo or 1-alkene type defects. The claimed polyolefins can be an alkene-based homopolymer. The defects in the polyolefin backbone are generated by a chain walking mechanism in which three or more carbons per monomer are added to the polymer backbone instead of two, as in conventional polymerization or copolymerization methods of alpha olefins. The novel polyolefins can be used in applications such as plastic wrapping, thin films, co-extrusion layers or molded parts in the absence of polymer blending or copolymerization. The cost of materials production can be reduced.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a three-dimensional structure manufacturing method for performing surface treatment processes, and a replication step to provide hydrophobicity on an external surface of the three-dimensional structure. In the manufacturing method, the hydrophobicity may be provided to the external surface of the three-dimensional structure, a high cost device required in the conventional MEMS process is not used, the manufacturing cost is reduced, and the manufacturing process is simplified. In addition, it has been difficult to provide the hydrophobicity on an external surface of a three-dimensional structure having a large surface due to a spatial limitation, but in the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the hydrophobicity may be provided to the external surface of the three-dimensional structure having a large surface, such as a torpedo, a submarine, a ship, and a vehicle, without the spatial limitation.

Abstract: The present invention proposes an electronic memory device comprising a memory line including a memory domain. The memory line may contain a number of memory domains and a number of fixed domains, wherein each memory domain stores a single binary bit value. A multiferroic element may be disposed proximate to each memory domain allowing the magnetization of the memory domain to be changed using a spin torque current, and ensuring the stability of the magnetization of the domain when it is not being written. The domain boundary between the memory domain and one of its adjacent fixed domains may thereby be moved. An antiferromagnetic element may be disposed proximate to each fixed domain to ensure the stability of the magnetization of these. The value of each memory domain may be read by applying a voltage to a magnetic tunnel junction comprising the memory domain and measuring the current flowing through it.

Abstract: A 23 amino acid peptide, AtPep1, plays an important role as a signaling component of the innate immune system of Arabidopsis. The peptide precursor gene is transcribed in response to elicitors generated by pathogens, and AtPep1 is produced to amplify the signaling pathways. Seven paralogs of the AtproPep1 gene have been identified in the Arabidopsis genome, and orthologs have been identified in species of several agriculturally important families. AtPep1 and its paralogs and orthologs play important roles as endogenous signals to amplify innate immunity. The sequences of two AtPep1 receptors from Arabidopsis are also provided.
