Patent number: 7715950Abstract: A microsource is provided, which includes a generator, a prime mover, and a controller. The prime mover includes a shaft connected to drive the generator to generate power at a frequency controlled by a rotation rate of the shaft. The controller calculates an operating frequency for the generator based on a comparison between a power set point and a measured power flow. A requested shaft speed for the prime mover is calculated by combining a maximum frequency change, a minimum frequency change, and the calculated operating frequency. A shaft speed adjustment is calculated for the prime mover based on a comparison between the requested shaft speed and a measured shaft speed of the prime mover. A fuel command for the prime mover is calculated based on the shaft speed adjustment. A rotation rate of the shaft of the prime mover is adjusted based on the calculated fuel command to control the frequency.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2007Date of Patent: May 11, 2010Assignee: Wisconsin Alumni Research FoundationInventors: Robert H. Patent number: 7713352Abstract: A process is provided to produce bulk quantities of nanowires in a variety of semiconductor materials. Thin films and droplets of low-melting metals such as gallium, indium, bismuth, and aluminum are used to dissolve and to produce nanowires. The dissolution of solutes can be achieved by using a solid source of solute and low-melting metal, or using a vapor phase source of solute and low-melting metal. The resulting nanowires range in size from 1 nanometer up to 1 micron in diameter and lengths ranging from 1 nanometer to several hundred nanometers or microns. This process does not require the use of metals such as gold and iron in the form of clusters whose size determines the resulting nanowire size. In addition, the process allows for a lower growth temperature, better control over size and size distribution, and better control over the composition and purity of the nanowire produced therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2006Date of Patent: May 11, 2010Assignee: University of Louisville Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Mahendra Kumar Sunkara, Shashank Sharma, Hari Chandrasekaran, Hongwei Li, Sreeram Vaddiraju

Publication number: 20100111438Abstract: An anisotropic diffusion method and apparatus based on the direction of an edge are disclosed. In the anisotropic diffusion apparatus, directional pattern masking is performed to determine the direction of an edge in an image including noise, and values obtained through the directional pattern masking are convoluted to calculate the magnitude of an image. If the calculated magnitude value of the edge is larger than a threshold value, the edge of the image is preserved, while if the calculated magnitude value of the edge is not larger than the threshold value, noise cancellation is strengthened, whereby noise can be effectively canceled (or concealed) while preserving the edge representing the characteristics of the image, and thus, an image of high quality can be obtained.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2009Publication date: May 6, 2010Applicants: Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Industry Foundation of Chonnam National UniversityInventors: June Young Chang, Han Jin Cho, Young Hwan Bae, Won Jong Kim, Mi Young Lee, Ju Yeob Kim, Guee Sang Lee, In San Jeon

Publication number: 20100112716Abstract: Negatively charged luminescent CdSe—ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were successfully incorporated into novel luminescent glyconanospheres averaging around 190 nm in diameter through electrostatic interactions with carboxymethyldextran (CM-dextran) and polylysine. The glyconanospheres preferably contain as well carboxyl-modified iron oxide nanocrystals. In addition to electrostatic attraction between the negatively charged dextran, the negatively charged CdSe—ZnS QDs (and negatively charged iron oxide nanocrystals, if present), and the positively charged polylysine, covalent amide bonds were introduced to cross link the QDs (and negatively charged iron oxide nanocrystals, if present) with the polysaccharide matrix to further stabilize the glyconanospheres. The dextran residues on the surface of the nanospheres show high affinity toward the glucose binding protein-Concanavalin A (Con A).Type: ApplicationFiled: March 23, 2005Publication date: May 6, 2010Applicant: University of New Orleans Research and Technology Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Zeev Rosenzweig, Yongfen Chen, Desheng Wang
