Abstract: An electrode array supports multiple electrodes and energizes them so that adjacent electrodes do not have the same polarity. In one embodiment, the electrodes are held about a circumference outside and surrounding a tumor and opposed electrodes are energized in a round robin fashion to promote current flow through the center of the tumor from a variety of angles.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a transceiving method and apparatus that enable QAM signal transmission in a filter bank multi-carrier (FBMC) communication system and provides, in particular, a transceiving method and apparatus that enable quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signal transmission without intrinsic interference by separating filtering between a sub-carrier having an even index and a sub-carrier having an odd index, and superimposing and transmitting sub-carriers filtered by means of separation. The thus-rendered present invention is a transmission method in the FBMC communication system, the method comprising the steps of: dividing at least two QAM signals into a plurality of groups; performing filtering on each of the plurality of groups; and superimposing and transmitting the QAM signal in the plurality of groups filtered on a time axis. The present invention relates to a transmission method and apparatus, and a corresponding reception method and apparatus.

Abstract: A method of generating synthetic data from time series data, such as from handwritten characters, words, sentences, mathematics, and sketches that are drawn with a stylus on an interactive display or with a finger on a touch device. This computationally efficient method is able to generate realistic variations of a given sample. In a handwriting or sketch recognition context, synthetic data is generated from real data in order to train recognizers and thus improve recognition accuracy when only a limited number of samples are available. Similarly, synthetic data can also be used to test and validate such recognizers. Also discussed is a dynamic time warping based approach for both segmented and continuous data that is designed to be a robust, go-to method for gesture recognition across a variety of modalities using only limited training samples.

Abstract: This disclosure features the methods and compositions involving development of novel polymer-based therapeutics that induce browning of white adipocytes for the treatment of obesity and its associated metabolic diseases. The therapeutic effects are largely attributed to the promotion of brown and/or beige adipocyte development and function by leveraging adipocyte plasticity and polymer-based drug delivery systems. Both brown and beige adipocytes are densely packed with mitochondria which highly express uncoupling protein-1 (UCP1), a thermogenic protein mediating non-shivering thermogenesis.
Abstract: Methods of making solid-state semiconducting films. The methods include forming a mixture by mixing at least two monomers in a pre-determined proportion such that at least one of the at least two monomers contains at least one non-conjugation spacer. Polymerization of the mixture is achieved by reacting the monomers with one another resulting in a solid state polymer which is then purified. The purified solid state polymer is dissolved in an organic solvent to form a homogenous solution which is then deposited onto a substrate, forming a solid-state semiconducting film by evaporating the solvent. Alternatively, the purified solid state polymer is deposited onto a substrate and heated to form a liquid melt, and cooling the liquid melt results in a solid state semiconducting thin film. Also, films comprising a semiconducting polymer composition containing a minimum of one non-conjugation spacer and devices comprising such films.
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for producing an organism specific diagnosis of septicemia in infants is disclosed. The method involves measuring the levels of one or more biomarkers against predefined threshold values and interpreting these levels to arrive at the diagnosis. Other techniques may introduce a preliminary step of identifying higher risk subjects, as well as the integration of such methods into the final diagnostic methodology. One aspect of a technique of this method may involve measuring one more cytokines to detect specific classes of infective organisms, such as Gram-negative bacteria.

Abstract: An optical sensor system, comprising refractory plasmonic elements that can withstand temperatures exceeding 2500° C. in chemically aggressive and harsh environments that impose stress, strain and vibrations. A plasmonic metamaterial or metasurface, engineered to have a specific spectral and angular response, exhibits optical reflection characteristics that are altered by varying physical environmental conditions including but not limited to temperature, surface chemistry or elastic stress, strain and other types of mechanical load. The metamaterial or metasurface comprises a set of ultra-thin structured layers with a total thickness of less than tens of microns that can be deployed onto surfaces of devices operating in harsh environmental conditions. The top interface of the metamaterial or metasurface is illuminated with a light source, either through free space or via an optical fiber, and the reflected signal is detected employing remote detectors.
