Abstract: A light amplifying device, which employs a SOA, has been disclosed, wherein, the gain of the SOA is adjusted by the injection of light into the semiconductor optical amplifier. The signal light and the CW control light are combined, entered into the SOA, and the control light is removed from the light output from the SOA by the filter, the amplified signal light is divided by the divider, and the power of one of the divided lights is detected. The control unit changes the power of the control light in accordance with the detected power. The gain is adjusted by changing the power of the control light. In this structure, the density of the carrier in the active layer is reduced by increasing the power of the control light in order to decrease the gain, but the saturation light output power of the SOA is increased because the carrier life is reduced.

With this configuration, certain compensation for the waveform degradation of the received signal stemming from chromatic dispersion or the like becomes feasible without using a dispersion compensation fiber.
Abstract: The system according to the present invention includes the server and the client apparatus connected through a network. The server identifies the type of the card based on the a few figures of the card number input by the user. Furthermore, the server obtains image data of the card and positions of items printed or embossed on the card based on the identified card. The image data and the positions of items has already been stored with the server. Then the server generates a data for displaying an input assistance screen based on the image data and the positions of items and transmits the generated data to the client apparatus where the input assistance screen is displayed.

Abstract: A thread manager makes a request to a resource manager for a hardware resource needed for execution of a thread representative of a function of a logical unit, the resource manager allocates the resource in response to the request, and the thread manager controls an execution state of the thread in accordance with a result of the allocation. The thread and resource managers conduct the request, the allocation and the control repeatedly in cooperation with each other until the execution of the thread reaches completion, thus achieving a simulation of the operation of the logical unit. Accordingly, through the operation simulation, it is possible to make the confirmation of the function and the evaluation of an architecture at an initial stage of the design of the logical unit, and further to cope flexibly with an alteration of the architecture by means of a minimum change of description.

Abstract: According to a PLL circuit of the present invention, an output of a phase comparator is adjusted according to a space-to-mark transition-probability of an input signal so that an output of a voltage controlled oscillator has a predetermined frequency and phase. Therefore, even when a phase of a timing clock is set other than at 0, an output of the PLL circuit can be kept at the set phase, irrespective of the space-to-mark transition-probability. By using the PLL circuit as such in an optical communication apparatus and an optical communication system, a discrimination point can be kept almost fixed, and therefore, it is possible to lower an error rate.

Abstract: Waveform data is extracted by referring to an existing waveform dictionary. Regarding the waveform data, a use frequency used for speech synthesis is accumulated and stored. A compression method is gradually changed in accordance with the use frequency, whereby the waveform data is compressed and stored in the waveform dictionary. Furthermore, information on a compression method for each compressed waveform data is stored, and the compressed waveform data is expanded based on information regarding the compression method. Regarding the use frequency of the waveform data, one or a plurality of predetermined threshold values are determined, and in a plurality of use frequency ranges partitioned with threshold values, the waveform data belonging to a use frequency range with a lower use frequency is compressed at a correspondingly increased compression ratio.
