  • Publication number: 20110112402
Abstract: A computer 12 of an image processing apparatus 11 acquires ultrasound B-mode images of consecutive frames to estimate a carotid artery wall at a carotid artery minor axis cross section included in an ultrasound B-mode image of a predetermined frame. The computer 12 also uses, as a template image, the ultrasound B-mode image, which includes the estimated carotid artery wall and surrounding tissues of the carotid artery wall and estimates the size of the diameter of the carotid artery wall so as to minimize a margin of error between a transformed template image, which is created by transforming the template image, and the acquired ultrasound B-mode image of each frame, thereby acquiring the time change of the carotid artery wall.

  • Publication number: 20110105901
Abstract: A computer 12 of an image processing apparatus 11 acquires a moving image including a minor axis cross section of a carotid artery and a cross section of surrounding tissues around the carotid artery and estimates, from images of two temporally different frames of the acquired moving image, an optical flow of each point included in an area corresponding to a carotid artery wall and an optical flow of each point included in an area corresponding to the surrounding tissues. Based on the estimated optical flow of each point, the computer 12 calculates an amount of displacement of the carotid artery and the surrounding tissues with respect to a radial direction of the carotid artery depending on a change in internal pressure of the carotid artery.

  • Publication number: 20110040181
Abstract: An image processing device acquires an ultrasound B-mode image sequence and creates an evaluation function of a mode of the longitudinal sectional shape of the carotid artery rendered in a frame following the frame that has already been modeled, thereby optimizing the evaluation function. The image processing device estimates and models the position and shape of the longitudinal sectional shape of the carotid artery for the following frame based on the optimization result, and performs the same for the subsequent frames. The image processing device outputs a variation of the carotid artery diameter in response to heartbeats based on the modeling result.

  • Publication number: 20100121192
Abstract: The blood vessel imaging system includes a carriage for moving in a row direction an ultrasonic probe having a plurality of ultrasonic transducers arranged along a column direction and along the row direction. A computer repeats intermittent movement control for the carriage in shorter distance than a row pitch of the ultrasonic transducers along the row direction for each of a plurality of predetermined periods. Three-dimensional image processing or four-dimensional image processing is performed on the basis of a two-dimensional image and position information, the two-dimensional image being generated by making original image information, which is obtained by the ultrasonic transducers, two-dimensional in an ultrasonograph. The computer generates the images of a maximum diameter, a minimum diameter, and the difference between the maximum diameter and the minimum diameter for each measurement site in a carotid artery on the basis of the image processing result.

  • Publication number: 20090202190
Abstract: When light is made incident to an optical waveguide path 14 formed through a main body 12 composed of silver (Ag) that is a plasmon active medium, surface plasmon is generated on a definition face 55 of the optical waveguide path 14 (including a fine aperture 16). Thus, the intensity of the light propagating in the optical waveguide path 14 is strengthened as the light propagates toward the fine aperture 16. In addition, a distal end 51 of a first protrusive piece 13a is more protrusive as compared with a distal end 52 of a second protrusive piece 13b. Thus, in a distal end part of a projection 13, the light is focused in the vicinity of the first protrusive piece 13a based on an intensity distribution of an electric field at the distal end part. Thus, the light having seeped out from the fine aperture 16 is restricted from spreading in a polarizing direction.

  • Patent number: 7427818
Abstract: A relaxor ferroelectric solid solution single crystal is capable of making transitions, at temperatures below the Curie temperature, between a first state which has a high permittivity and blocks optical transmission and a second state which has a low permittivity and allows optical transmission. The relaxor ferroelectric solid solution single crystal undergoes a transition to the second state if an electric field above a threshold is applied thereto in the first state. The relaxor ferroelectric solid solution single crystal undergoes a transition to the first state if heated to or above the Curie temperature in the second state.

  • Publication number: 20080163823
Abstract: A method for screening for useful dog candidates comprises a step of investigating the genotype of the allele in exon 1 or intron 2 of dog dopamine receptor D4 gene, and a step of selecting a dog with genetic aptitudes beneficial to people by making the selection based on that genotype. The step of investigating the genotype comprises a step of amplifying the allele using a pair of PCR primers that bond in the vicinity of both terminals of the allele, and a step of determining the genotype of the allele based on the lengths of the PCR products obtained by that step. A dog having the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 5 for at least one of the alleles in exon 1, or a dog having the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 9 for at least one of the alleles in intron 2, is useful as a seeing-eye dog or other service dog.

  • Patent number: 7286688
Abstract: A mobile unit moves on a reference plane. The mobile unit has an object detection apparatus for detecting an object on the reference plane. The object detection apparatus includes a camera, a mirror, and a computer. The mirror cuts an image received by the camera such that the camera receives an image that is divided into a reference plane image and an object image. The reference plane image contains the reference plane. The object image contains the object and does not contain the reference plane. Therefore, the distance measuring apparatus can easily separate the region including the object and the region including no object, and accurately detect the distance to the object.
