Abstract: A novel process for the manufacture of p-tert.butylbenzene derivatives is described. The process comprises reacting p-tert.butyl-benzyl chloride with a 2-formylpropionate of the formula ##STR1## wherein R represents lower-alkyl, e.g. C.sub.1-6 -alkyl, especially methyl or ethyl, and, if desired, converting the resulting compound of theformula ##STR2## wherein R has the above significance, optionally after purification, into p-tert.butyl-.alpha.-methyl-hydrocinnamaldehyde by decarbalkoxylation.
Abstract: A baked chewing gum product containing gum base, sweetener, about one percent water or less having a porous, crumbly, breakable, biscuit-like texture obtained by rapidly baking chewing gum pieces at a temperature of from 80.degree. C. to 180.degree. C. to reduce the water content and to produce said texture.
Abstract: The present invention discloses fragrance and flavor compositions comprising 4-alkyl substituted cyclohexyl and cyclohex-3-enyl carboxylic acids wherein the 4-alkyl substituent is an ethyl, propyl or butyl group, and methods for preparing same.

Abstract: (2R*,3S*)-(E)-3-Methyl-5-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)pent-4-en-2-ol possesses a very intense creamy, woody, musk, sandalwood odor and is a valuable ingredient for use in fragrance compositions for its musk and sandalwood-like qualities. This odorant is more intense than any of the campholenic aldehyde derivatives that have been previously reported.
Abstract: 2-(1'-Hydroxyimino-ethyl)-1,3,3,4,4-pentamethylcyclopentene is a novel odorant. A process for its manufacture, fragrance compositions containing same and methods for improving fragrance compositions by adding same thereto are disclosed.
Abstract: This invention concerns the use of cis-3,7-dimethylocta-3,6-dienoic acid as a flavorant and flavor compositions and tobacco products containing same. This invention also concerns such flavor compositions and tobacco products wherein the cis-3,7-dimethylocta-3,6-dienoic acid is used in combination with 2,2,4-trimethylcyclohex-3(or)4-ene-carboxylic acid.
Abstract: Compounds of the formulaR.sub.2 COO--(CH.sub.2).sub.5 --COOR.sub.1wherein:R.sub.1 is a one to four carbon alkyl group or a two to three carbon alkenyl group, andR.sub.2 is hydrogen, a one to three carbon alkyl group, a two or three carbon alkenyl group, methoxy or ethoxy, and fragrance compositions containing them.
Abstract: This invention provides new and improved urinal blocks and toilet bowl rim blocks which are fragranced gels and which can be used to control the release of germicides, deodorants, cleaning agents, dyes and/or other releasable "active ingredients" into a toilet system for the purpose of sanitizing, cleaning and/or deodorizing.
