Abstract: The invention is concerned with compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein one of the symbols R.sup.1,R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 stands for methyl or ethyl and the others stand for hydrogen and R.sup.4 signifies hydrogen or methyl, with the proviso that R.sup.4 represents hydrogen when R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 both represent hydrogen and R.sup.3 represents methyl and their use as odorants and flavorants.
Abstract: Manufacture of p-tert. butyl-benzaldehyde (TBT) by oxidation with a Mn.sup.3+ salt, which salt is generated by electrochemical oxidation of a Mn.sup.2+ salt, and whereby the chemical oxidation and the electrochemical oxidation are carried out in separate reaction vessels.
Abstract: The invention is concerned with compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl;R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of normal or terminally singly branched alkyl or alkenyl groups having four to seven carbon atoms provided that:(i) when R.sup.1 is hydrogen the alkyl group must have at least five carbon atoms, and(ii) when R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.2 is an alkyl group. This invention is also concerned with odorant compositions containing these compounds.
Abstract: Novel esters, of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R represents C.sub.1-4 -alkyl or C.sub.2-4 -alkenyl and one of the three broken lines represents an additional bond, are disclosed. Also disclosed are novel odorant and/or flavouring compositions containing esters or formula I, a process and intermediates for the manufacture of the esters of formula I and the use of esters of formula I as odorant and/or flavouring substances.
Abstract: This invention discloses a novel process for producing p-t-butyl-.alpha.-methyldihydrocinnamaldehyde which comprises converting the .alpha.-methyldihydrocinnamaldehyde to an enamine, oxazolidine or a Schiff's base, reacting said derivative with a tertiary butyl cation, and then removing the protective group.
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a novel odorant and/or flavoring substance, namely, 2-methyl-2-buten-1-yl tiglate of the formula ##STR1## The invention is also concerned with a process for the manufacture of the compound of formula I, the compound of formula I as an odorant and/or flavoring substance and odorant and/or flavoring compositions containing the compounds of formula I.
Abstract: A novel process for the preparation of 2,4,5-trichlorophenol which comprises selectively chlorinating 2,5-dichlorophenol under acidic conditions.

Abstract: Novel substituted tetrahydrofurans having a six-membered ring in the 4 position and methyl substituents in the 2 and 4 positions possess organoleptic properties described as fruity, citrus-like and reminiscent of grapefruit. These compounds are useful in fragrances and flavors.
Abstract: The lower alkyl esters of .alpha.-campholenic acid and .alpha.-campholanic acid have organoleptic properties which make them useful for preparing fragrances and flavors.
Abstract: This invention discloses a number of novel odorant oximes having from 11 to 14 carbon atoms, processes for making same, and odorant compositions containing same.
Abstract: Terminal epoxides, also known as alpha-epoxides or 1,2-epoxides, are rearranged predominantly to the corresponding aldehydes using a catalyst system consisting of lithium tetrafluoroborate in a polyether solvent.
Abstract: There is disclosed a novel process for preparing a number of cinnamaldehyde derivatives. These cinnamaldehyde derivatives can be reduced to dihydrocinnamaldehyde derivatives, a number of which are commercially important in the preparation of fragrances. The invention is also directed to a number of novel intermediates and their preparation.
