Abstract: A seating assembly for a vehicle including a seat movable between a raised vertical position and a lowered horizontal position. A storage cavity is defined by an underside of the seat. The storage cavity includes a plurality of vehicle emergency items. Retaining features are disposed on the underside of the seat and secure the plurality of vehicle emergency items. An access opening is disposed on the underside of the seat. A door covers the access opening and is pivotally connected to the underside of the seat. The door is maintained in a latched condition until the seat is moved to the raised vertical position. The door moves to an unlatched condition when the seat is in the raised vertical position and access to the access opening is possible.

Abstract: Methods and systems for fuel system leak detection are disclosed. In one example approach, a method comprises, during an engine-on condition, delivering fuel from a fuel tank to one or more cylinders of the engine while the fuel tank is sealed off from atmosphere, and indicating a leak based on pressure in the fuel tank. For example, a leak may be indicated in response to a pressure decrease in the fuel tank greater than an expected pressure decrease, where the expected pressure decrease is based on a fuel level in the fuel tank.

Abstract: A continuous process for preparing insulation panels having thick (0.2 mm to 1 mm) metal facing panels and a fiber-reinforced polymer foam core is disclosed. In the process, a bottom metal facing panel (2) is continuously supplied. A mat (10) of reinforcing fibers and a foamable resin composition (19) are applied to the bottom facing panel. A flexible barrier layer (5) is applied atop the foamable resin composition, and the assembly is passed through nip rolls (12,13) to compress the assembly and force the resin composition into the fiber mat. An adhesive layer (4) and top metallic facing layer (1) are then applied on top of the flexible barrier layer, and the resulting assembly is gauged and cured by passing it through a double band laminator (11).

Abstract: A hybrid vehicle includes an engine and an electric machine selectively coupled to the engine via a clutch. The engine, electric machine, and clutch are arranged along a common axis. At least one controller is programmed to execute various commands when the vehicle is in park or neutral and the accelerator pedal of the vehicle is depressed. This enhances perceived vehicle reactions in response to accelerator pedal movement. To do so, the controller is programmed to control a rate of speed increase of the electric machine based on a rate of the depression of the accelerator pedal (e.g., “speed control”). Furthermore, the torque output of the engine is controlled to a target value irrespective of engine speed and engine torque is converted into electric energy via the electric machine (e.g., “torque control”). The rate of speed increase of the electric machine is altered when the engine is started.

Abstract: Two or more esters of a cellulose ether, each having the same ether and ester substituents but different weight average molecular weights are prepared in a process which comprises the steps of esterifying a cellulose ether with (i) an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid anhydride or (ii) a dicarboxylic acid anhydride or (iii) a combination of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid anhydride and a dicarboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of an alkali metal carboxylate in two or more separate reactions, wherein in each reaction a different molar ratio [alkali metal carboxylate/anhydroglucose units of cellulose ether] is used to produce esters of the cellulose ether of different weight average molecular weights.
Abstract: An apparatus to facilitate vehicle door closing includes a rack gear engaging a pinion gear that are connected between the door and a hinge pillar. A spring is operatively connected to the pinion gear stores energy during a portion of a door opening motion and releases the stored energy to bias the door to close. A damper operatively connects the spring and the door to limit the door closing speed during a portion of the door closing motion. A power cinching mechanism may be operatively coupled to the door closing apparatus to assist in the final closing motion of the door.
Abstract: A method for controlling an internal combustion engine based on the amount of un-burned fuel dissolved in the engine oil, and returned into the manifold through the PCV valve as the engine oil temperature rises via adjusting fuel injection into a cylinder from a fuel injector, in a fuel delivery system. The fuel dilution in engine oil and the amount of fuel entering the intake manifold through the PCV valve can be determined based on one or more of oil volume, fuel composition (e.g., ethanol content), oil temperature, engine temperature, engine speed, engine load, engine run time, injected fuel mass, and exhaust gas composition.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling battery power in a hybrid vehicle for a given driver demand that balances battery state of charge and battery capacity limits while operating the engine at a system efficient engine power. Predictive information may be used to predict battery energy usage during a future time window that indicates a charging opportunity (excess power will be absorbed by the battery) or a boosting opportunity (battery power will be discharged). Based on this information and the current state of charge of the battery, an associated battery power for a given driver demand is determined.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for engine systems including a multiple tap aspirator with a throat tap and a diffuser tap. Suction passages coupled to the throat and diffuser taps, respectively, may fluidly communicate via a leak passage with a flow restriction. During conditions where the pressure at a suction flow source of the diffuser tap is less than the pressure at the diffuser tap, backflow from the diffuser tap may travel through the leak passage into the throat tap.
