Abstract: A driver command predictor includes a controller, multiple sensors, and a command prediction unit. The controller is configured to command an adjustment of multiple motion vectors of a vehicle relative to a roadway in response to multiple actual driver commands and multiple future driver commands. The actual driver commands are received at a current time. The future driver commands are received at multiple update times. The update times range from the current time to a future time. The sensors are configured to generate sensor data that determines multiple actual states of the vehicle in response to the motion vectors as commanded. The command prediction unit is configured to generate the future driver commands at the update times in response to a driver model. The driver model operates on the actual driver commands and the actual states to predict the future driver commands at the update times.

  • Patent number: 11876472
Abstract: The disclosure includes a control system for a multi-phase electric machine that includes an inverter configured to transfer electric energy from a rechargeable energy storage device (RESS), and phase current sensors. A controller includes an executable instruction set to monitor, via the phase current sensors, the phase currents, and detect that one of the phase currents is outside a linear measurement range of a respective one of the phase current sensors. An extrapolated current for the respective one of the phase current sensors is determined based upon the phase currents from others of the phase current sensors. A current extrapolation routine evaluates the respective one of the phase current sensors. A fault is detected in the respective one of the phase current sensors based upon the current extrapolation routine and the extrapolated current.

Abstract: A propulsion system for a device includes an electric motor configured to generate torque to propel the device. A position sensor is adapted to determine a rotor position of the electric motor. The system includes a controller having instructions recorded for determining the rotor position when a sensor fault condition is detected. The controller is adapted to selectively command injection of a voltage signal in a direct magnetic axis in a synchronous reference frame when a motor speed of the electric motor is below a predefined motor speed threshold and the sensor fault condition is detected. The rotor position is estimated based in part on a motor current response to the voltage signal. The voltage signal is defined by an alternating periodic shape having respective constant segments in each of a plurality of control periods, the respective constant segments being discontinuous between the control periods.

  • Patent number: 11872989
Abstract: The concepts described herein relate to a calculation of desired future longitudinal horizons related to torque or acceleration, and desired future lateral horizons related to yaw rate and lateral velocity, and their use in response to driver-selectable modes. In the longitudinal direction, driver inputs of pedal and brake position as well as drivability metrics are used to calculate the desired future torque trajectory. In the lateral direction, the front and rear steering angles may be used with a bicycle model to derive the trajectories. The trajectories are used in a vehicle motion controller that uses weighting to tradeoff competing requests and deliver performance that is consistent with a selected driver mode, such as a tour mode, a sport mode, an off-road mode, a trailering mode, etc.
