A process of the disclosed technology can include steps for displaying a user interface (UI) on a remote assistance system, wherein the UI comprises at least one chargeable button, detecting a user engagement with the at least one chargeable button, wherein the user engagement is configured to communicate one or more commands to an autonomous vehicle (AV) that is communicatively coupled to the RA system, performing a latency check to determine a latency between the AV and the RA system, and aborting the one or more actions on the AV, if a determination is made that the latency exceeds a predetermined threshold. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.
Abstract: A system includes a surface, a display screen positioned adjacent to the surface, and a selectively retractable screen cover positioned at the surface adjacent the display screen. The selectively retractable screen cover including a door member rotatably mounted relative to the surface between a first stop, wherein the display screen is fully exposed and a second stop, wherein only the display screen is only partially exposed, the door member including a door pivot. An actuating fork includes a first tine element, a second tine element, and a connector portion defining an axis of rotation. The door pivot is slidingly received between the first tine element and the second tine element. A motor includes a shaft connected to the actuating fork. The motor rotates the shaft to shift the door member between the first stop and the second stop.
Abstract: AVs can communicate with humans for operational behaviors of the AVs. An AV behavior may be detected and classified as an undesirable AV behavior that would cause a negative sentiment of a person based on information of the AV behavior, information of the person, or both. The person may be a passenger of the AV or a person outside the AV. A message including information of the AV behavior is generated. The message includes information that can improve the person's sentiment or improve the performance (e.g., safety, passenger comfort, etc.) of the AV. The message may include one or more options for the person to provide feedback on the AV behavior. The person's feedback can be used to improve a classification model used to classify the AV behavior. The message may also include an option for the person to modify a ride provided by the AV to the person.

Abstract: Presented are intelligent vehicle communications (comm) systems provisioning enhanced vehicle-to-everything (V2X) wireless mesh network (WMN) hop propagation, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such systems. A method of controlling operation of a host vehicle includes a vehicle controller determining the host vehicle is incapacitated and then detecting the host vehicle's wireless comm device is unable to connect to a cellular or satellite communications system. Responsive to such insufficient connectivity, the controller broadcasts a V2X WMN distress message containing data specific to the host vehicle and data specific to the host vehicle's incapacitating event. Upon receipt of the distress message, a recipient vehicle's controller determines if a prior distress message for the incapacitating vehicle event was previously received and if the distress message exceeds any preset multi-hop restrictions.
Abstract: Methods and systems determine resistance related constants for use by a vehicle towing a trailer. A system for controlling functions of the vehicle and the trailer includes sensors that provide sensor data. A processor performs a readiness check, based on the sensor data, by determining whether the sensor data exceeds predetermined thresholds. When the readiness check is passed, meaning the thresholds are not exceeded, and based on the sensor data, the processor computes values for constants that represent aerodynamic resistance and rolling resistance of the vehicle and the trailer. Based on the constants, the processor controls functions of the vehicle.
Abstract: Preemptively charging rechargeable energy storage systems (RESSs) in advance of an electrical grid outage. The preemptive charging may include generating a weather map of a geographical area anticipated to be impacted with a storm or a natural event of a severity predicted to induce a power outage, which may include generating a distribution map of an electrical power distribution network within the geographical area, generating an outage map by overlaying the weather map relative to the distribution map to identify one or more intersections where the power outage is predicted, and scheduling or otherwise implementing preemptively charging of one or more the RESSs downstream of the intersections in advance of the power outage.

Abstract: Vehicles and related systems and methods are provided for assisting vehicle operation. A detection service obtains a current object location derived from one or more sensors onboard a vehicle, determines a current deviation metric associated with the current object location based on a relationship between the current object location and a preceding object location derived from the one or more sensors, and classifies the current object location into one of a plurality of different classifications based on the current deviation metric value, where a primary subset of object locations has respective values for the deviation metric that are less than a threshold. The detection service monitors a predicted path associated with the vehicle with at least the most recent object location of the primary subset to generate an alert in response to a predicted intersection with the predicted path.
Abstract: Systems and methods for real time and predictive diagnostics of vehicle electronic components. Circuit boards and similar vehicle electronic devices have input/output speeds on the order of tens of gigahertz (GHz). Signal integrity can be affected when operating in real time while a high speed signal travels across circuit boards. To maintain signal integrity, hardware around high speed signals is designed to match impedance and transmission lengths. Additionally, differences can occur from circuit board to circuit board due to aging during vehicle operation, and tolerances in the manufacturing process. Systems and methods are provided herein to compensate for the tolerances in the manufacturing process. The real time and predictive diagnostics of vehicle electronic components provided herein can prevent on-road vehicle failures.
Abstract: An electrode for a fuel cell system is provided. The electrode includes a carbon support. The carbon support includes carbon particles each functionalized with one or more sulfur and oxygen-containing moieties. Platinum-based catalyst particles are disposed on the carbon support. Ionomer is disposed on the carbon support. A weight ratio of the ionomer to the carbon support is about 0.4 or less.
Abstract: Methods and devices for processing tubular workpieces are provided. An exemplary method for processing a tubular workpiece includes providing instructions, with a computing device, for cutting the tubular workpiece according to a desired design; loading the tubular workpiece into a processing machine including a laser-cutting device and a punch bit; and operating the laser-cutting device, based on the instructions, to cut the tubular workpiece to form an opening and a slug in the opening. Further, the method includes operating the punch bit, based on the instructions, to punch the slug to remove the slug from the opening.

Abstract: Various technologies described herein pertain to generating an occupancy grid movie for utilization in motion planning for the autonomous vehicle. The occupancy grid movie can be generated for a given time and can include time-stepped occupancy grids for future times that are at predefined time intervals from the given time. The time-stepped occupancy grids include cells corresponding to regions in an environment surrounding the autonomous vehicle. Probabilities can be assigned to the cells specifying likelihoods that the regions corresponding to the cells are occupied at the future times. Moreover, cached query objects that respectively specify indices of cells of a grid occupied by a representation of an autonomous vehicle at corresponding orientations are described herein. An occupancy grid for the environment surrounding the autonomous vehicle can be queried to determine whether cells of the occupancy grid are occupied utilizing a cached query object from the cache query objects.
Abstract: System, methods, and computer-readable media for localizing an autonomous vehicle to a location in a stored LIDAR map relative to lane markings labeled in the stored LIDAR map. The labeled lane marking may be associated with a dashed line, a solid line, a double line, or an unmarked line. The autonomous vehicle may fit the set of lane marking points with the labeled lane marking via a point-to-line solver that locates the set of lane marking points to the line, excluding a longitudinal variable. The lane matching localizing system utilities a point-to-line iterative closet point, wherein the matched point pairs are calculated by perpendicular point of line from the query point instead of finding the closest sampled point.
