  • Patent number: 4343271
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine with an engine unit support (1) comprising parts directly affected by body resonance as, e.g., cylinder block (2), cylinderhead (3), crankshaft (7) and crankshaft bearings (6), the engine unit support is connected to the crankcase (8) by means of several vibration absorbing and power transmitting elements (29) whereby the crankcase is insulated against body resonance. A sealing element (40; 44) is arranged between the engine unit support (1) for the crankcase (8) and sealing a lower oil-wetted part (15) of the engine oil-tightly against an upper dry part. The vibration absorbing elements (29) are mounted on the one side at the walls (25, 26) of the crankcase (8) and on the other side at the main bearing walls (20, 21) of the engine unit support in the region of the crankshaft axis (22).

  • Patent number: 4340014
Abstract: An internal combustion engine with a noise-suppressing encapsulation has a drive wheel for auxiliary units which is driven by the crankshaft of the engine and arranged outside the encapsulation. The drive wheel consists of two concentric parts which are connected via at least one elastic member. The inner part of the drive wheel has cooling air ducts which extend from inlet ends on the side opposite an opening in the encapsulation wall to a exit ends on the side adjacent the opening, the exit ends being spaced a greater distance from the axis of rotation than the inlet ends, although still lying within the noted opening. Thus a blower is provided in the form of a centrifugal pump. A cover is connected to the outer part of the drive wheel which covers the inner part and has sound-isolated suction openings for the cooling air.

  • Patent number: 4338889
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine the power generating parts mainly responsible for body resonance and sound vibration such as the crankshaft (3), cylinder block and cylinder head (35) are combined in a power unit which is supported in the crankcase (4) on elastic vibration-absorbing mountings (2) with the sidewalls of the crankcase (4) extending above the crankshaft axis (3).By this arrangement the crankcase (4) is free from direct vibrations leaving other non-power transmitting engine parts mounted above the crankcase (4) which require means to suppress radiated noise. In one embodiment the induction manifold (7) and mounting parts (13, 14) thereof together with the rocker cover (20) are insulated from the cylinder head (35) by vibration-absorbing elements (8,15,16,21,26) and are so shaped and arranged that they provide a screen for noise radiated from the cylinder head (35). Thus, essential parts of the engine have the secondary function of reducing the level of noise emitted by the engine.

  • Patent number: 4338893
Abstract: A decompression device for an internal combustion engine having a camshaft (4) with at least one cam (21) having a base circle (20) and a lobe elevated therefrom, a valve acting at a combustion chamber, and a transmitting member, e.g., a push rod (12), transmitting the lift of the cam (21) to the valve, has a control shaft (5), a decompression cam (11) and a ratched wheel (8) connected to the control shaft (5), and a shifting member (14) interworking with the ratched wheel (8) for resetting the decompression cam (11). The decompression cam (11) is arranged between the transmitting member and a cam-free part of the camshaft (4) and the shifting member (14) is arranged eccentrically at the camshaft (4) at a distance to the axis of the camshaft (4) which is greater than half the root diameter thereof.By this arrangement it is possible to lift the transmitting member, e.g., the push rod from the base circle of the cam of the camshaft without further supplementary means, simply by turning the decompression cam.

  • Patent number: 4321833
Abstract: A transducer device for measuring the internal pressure in pipe comprises a housing made of two parts, a connecting element which acts for a hinge connection between the housing parts, and a chucking device for clamping the housing parts onto the pipe. To enable a simple handling and mounting of the device and to avoid effects on the measuring signals resulting from mechanical vibrations of the pipe, the chucking device is performed as a snapping catch and comprises a clamp and a spring clip. The clamp is hinged supported at that side of one of the housing parts being opposite the connecting element. The spring clip is hinged supported at the clamp and coacts in locked position of the chucking device with a notch arranged on the other one of the housing parts.

  • Patent number: 4289105
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for a compression-ignition engine includes a cylinder having a bore therein and a pump piston which is mounted not only to reciprocate within the bore past a fuel supply port but also rotate therewithin. The pump piston has upper and lower control surfaces which each have a bowed shape. The center or centers of the control edges lies or lie above them, and in the region between the upper part loads and full load in the direction towards full load the upper control edge has a rising shape while the lower control edge has a falling shape. The lower control edge, by comparison with the remainder of its extent falls progressively less steeply towards full load and the upper control edge rises increasingly steeply, so that the compensation of delivery in accordance with speed is achieved predominantly by the upper control edge and there is obtained a speed-dependent advance of the start of delivery.
