    Abstract: Process for the preparation of naphthostyril by dissolving 1,8-naphthalimide in an aqueous solution of lithium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide while heating at 40.degree. C. to 80.degree. C., cooling the solution obtained to 14.degree. C. and seeding it at said temperature with a maximum of 1 mol-% of sodium 1,8-naphthalimide per 1 mol of 1,8-naphthalimide used, then adding chlorine bleaching liquor at 10.degree. C. to 20.degree. C., reductively removing excess active chlorine after the reaction has taken place, adjusting the alkaline aqueous solution produced of the alkali-metal salt of the 1-aminonaphthal-ene-8-carboxylic acid formed to a pH of 2.0 by adding acid and isolating the naphthostyril which precipitates in this process.

In a preferred embodiment, it comprises an enol ether formation from 8,13-epoxy-1.alpha.,6.beta.,7.beta.-trihydroxylabd-14-en-11-one-6,7-carbon ate, oxidation of the enol ether with a suitable peroxy acid to obtain 11,12-dehydro-8,13-epoxy-11-methoxy-1.alpha.,6.beta.,7.beta.,9.alpha.-tetr ahydrolabd-14-ene-6,7-carbonate and hydrolysis of the latter under an acidic condition to obtain 8,13-epoxy-1.alpha.,6.beta.,7.beta.,9.alpha.-tetrahydroxylabd-14-en-11-one -6,7-carbonate. As an alternative way of protecting the two hydroxy groups at carbon-6 and carbon-7, they may also be converted to dimethyl acetal during the synthetic sequence. Four compounds produced in the synthetic scheme as intermediates, namely, 9,11-dehydro-8,13-epoxy-11-methoxy-1.

    Abstract: An improved apparatus for threading thermoplastic film through at least one forward stretching machine 23, comprising driven, stationary rolls 1 and driven, raised lift rolls 2. Each of the rolls 1 and 2 has an intake plate 4 on one of its front sides, which has a milled grooved 24 for the threading apparatus to pass through. The threading apparatus comprises a flexible rod 18 with a removably attached clamp component 13 or 25. The clamp components contain variously configured clamping elements, springs, and insertion slots. The clamping elements are arranged in such a way that they hold the film web 3, which has been inserted in them, during the transport of the threading unit through the forward stretching machine, this holding being done by means of self-locking or spring-loading. For the reliable introduction of the threading apparatus into the forward stretching machine 23, there is disclosed an insertion unit 31, having pairs of upper and lower guide bearings 19.
