  • Publication number: 20090115872
Abstract: A system and method for processing images on a camera-equipped mobile device. Upon direction from the user that a picture is to be taken with the camera of the mobile device, an image is initially captured and temporarily stored at a first resolution (e.g. a maximum resolution). This may be, for example, the highest resolution setting that might be specified by a user of the camera. The user is then queried for a specific second resolution at which the image is to be subsequently stored, for example, in a non-volatile memory on the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 7529527
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in a wireless communication device for re-establishing communications with a wireless communication network are described. In one illustrative technique, a data connection is maintained with the wireless network for communicating data with use of data connection parameters (e.g. an encryption parameter). In response to a communication failure, the wireless device attempts to establish a new data connection with the wireless network. To do this, the wireless device sends a message to the wireless network which causes the data connection parameters to be reset. Preferably, the message is a disconnect frame. After the message is sent, the wireless device sends an attach request to the wireless network. Thereafter, the wireless device communicates data over the new data connection with use of new data connection parameters.

  • Publication number: 20090109942
Abstract: In one illustrative example, a mobile communication device receives, via a generic access network (GAN) from a GAN controller, a message having a discontinuous transmission (DTX) indication. For a voice communication session, the mobile device causes a connection to be established with the GANC, via the GAN and over a wireless communication link with a wireless access point of the GAN, for the communication of voice data of the voice session which is provided via a core network of a mobile telecommunications network. In response to identifying that the DTX indication indicates that the DTX functions are instructed or supported by the GANC, the mobile device causes DTX functions to be performed for the communication of the voice data of the voice session over the wireless link.

  • Publication number: 20090111504
Abstract: Different target transmit powers are determined for different wireless transmissions from a wireless device. The target transmit power of a wireless transmission may depend upon whether any transmitters other than the device to which the wireless transmission is to be sent are within range of the sending wireless device. The target transmit power of a wireless transmission may be based, at least in part, on a current location of a device to which one or more frames carried by the wireless transmission are addressed. The target transmit power of a wireless transmission may be based, at least in part, on confidentiality of data carried by the wireless transmission.

  • Publication number: 20090113543
Abstract: A system and method for authenticating a user to a user device using one or more-factor authentication with a certificate are provided. The status of the certificate is stored at the user device such that the stored status is queried during the authentication process. The status is updated as a background operation on the user device on a periodic basis. In the event that the user device fails to obtain updated status information, further status update requests are issued by the user device at varying time intervals until a response is received. In the event that the user is authenticated to the device but the certificate is subsequently revoked, access to all or a subset of user data and functions on the user device may be restricted.

  • Publication number: 20090112962
Abstract: After squaring an element of a binary field, the squaring result may be reduced modulo the field-defining polynomial g bits at a time. To this end, a lookup table may be employed, where the lookup table stores entries corresponding to reducing g-bit-long polynomials modulo the field-defining polynomial. Such a reducing strategy may be shown to be more efficient than a bit-by-bit reducing strategy.

  • Patent number: 7525936
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, by which to facilitate operation of a roaming mobile node to perform a packet communication service. When the mobile node roams beyond its home network, detection is made of the available networks in whose coverage area that the mobile node roams together with the communication capabilities of the available networks. A preferred listing stored at a storage element of the mobile node is accessed to determine if any of the available and compatible networks are listed on the preferred listing. If so, selection is made of one of the available and preferred networks. Otherwise, a network not contained in the preferred listing is selected through which to communicate.

  • Patent number: 7525941
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for reducing power consumption of a code division multiple access (CDMA) communication device are described. The CDMA communication device operates in a communication session with a base station during which information is communicated over an information channel. At some point during the communication session, the device identifies that is has no information to transmit. In response, the device places its transmitter into a low power state and does not transmit any information that it would normally be accustomed to transmit (e.g. overhead such as idle frames) provided that forward RF link is stable. During that time, a receiver of the communication device may remain operative to receive information (e.g. transmitter power values). Provided that there is no need to transmit other necessary information, the transmitter is maintained in the low power state for a duration of time that is less than a fade time expiration of the base station.
