Abstract: This disclosure relates to compositions and methods for single-step, multi-stage amplification reactions that combine many stages of sample preparation process in a single tube reaction. The disclosed technology provides a mean of performing multiplexed nested PCR in a single vessel, without any need of purification steps, and is based on the use of three sets of primers: a pair of outer primers, a pair of inner primers that are nested within the pair of outer primers, and tail primers that are complementary to tails on the inner primers. By adjusting the temperature conditions, annealing temperatures of the primers, number of amplification cycles, and the concentrations of the outer, inner, and tail primers, it is possible to carry out multiplexed nested PCR in a single vessel.
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a method for synthesizing a ribonucleic acid H-phosphonate monomer, and a method for performing oligonucleotide synthesis in which said monomer is used. The present invention pertains to a method for manufacturing an inexpensively manufacturable H-phosphonate nucleoside derivative in which selective protection is provided to position 2? of a ribonucleoside monomer required in RNA oligonucleotide synthesis. The present invention is characterized in that: hydroxyl groups in position 2? and position 3?, which have slightly different reactivity, are caused to react with an aromatic acyl halide at low temperature to selectively esterify position 2?; and subsequently the hydroxyl group at position 3? in one pot is captured by a phosphityl group to prevent position 2? and position 3? transfer of the acyl group.

Abstract: A bit interleaver, a bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) device and a bit interleaving method are disclosed herein. The bit interleaver includes a first memory, a processor, and a second memory. The first memory stores a low-density parity check (LDPC) codeword having a length of 16200 and a code rate of 3/15. The processor generates an interleaved codeword by interleaving the LDPC codeword on a bit group basis. The size of the bit group corresponds to a parallel factor of the LDPC codeword. The second memory provides the interleaved codeword to a modulator for 64-symbol mapping.

Abstract: One or more sensors may detect a gesture or gestures by one or more human users. The detected gesture or gestures may trigger sharing of music or other information. For instance, a first user may be listening to music on headphones. A second user may turn her head, so that her head is facing toward the first user. A sensor may detect this head orientation of the second user. This head orientation may trigger the system to share the first user's music with the second user, for at least as long as this head orientation continues.

Abstract: An integrated optical beam steering device includes a planar dielectric lens that collimates beams from different inputs in different directions within the lens plane. It also includes an output coupler, such as a grating or photonic crystal, that guides the collimated beams in different directions out of the lens plane. A switch matrix controls which input port is illuminated and hence the in-plane propagation direction of the collimated beam. And a tunable light source changes the wavelength to control the angle at which the collimated beam leaves the plane of the substrate. The device is very efficient, in part because the input port (and thus in-plane propagation direction) can be changed by actuating only log2 N of the N switches in the switch matrix. It can also be much simpler, smaller, and cheaper because it needs fewer control lines than a conventional optical phased array with the same resolution.

Abstract: A computing system responsive to obtaining original image data, detects a set of data point(s), in the original image data, that indicates an object. The system determines, based on the set of data point(s), a set of pixels associated with the object in the original image data. The system generates an alternative visual identifier for the object that provides a unique identifier for the set of pixels absent in the original image data. The system generates, autonomously from intervention by any user of the computing system, pixel information to conceal feature(s) of the object. The system obtains modified image data comprising the alternative visual identifier. The modified image data further comprises the feature(s) of the object in the original image data visually concealed in the modified image data according to the pixel information. The system outputs an image representation of a trajectory of the object through the modified image data.
