The core-shell particles can be provided with a gel-forming polymer, such as a polyacrylamide, into a subterranean reservoir having conditions such that the shell of the core-shell polymer degrades, and the so-released metal is effective to at least partially crosslink the gel-forming polymer to form a gel. The so-formed gel can be effective to control water flow through the subterranean reservoir, such as in relation to a waterflood of the reservoir.

Laced mesh structures can also be used for enhanced thermal control of components, with the ability to tailor thermal conductivity and emissivity, to create thermal engineered components via the generation of localized or global thermal response (e.g. zone thermal control).

Thermally conductive particles having a size range of approximately 0.01 microns to 500 microns in an amount of approximately 0.1 to 10 weight percent are evenly dispersed throughout the backfill.
