Abstract: A process for forming a hollow member with A complicated cross-section wherein a section of a tube blank first undergoes a bending deformation due to its internal pressure and bend moment generated by the upsetting of an upper die, and is then compressed to be molded under the support of the internal pressure. The process of the invention does not require the reshaping step at an increased pressure. The process can make a hollow member with a complicated cross-section formed under a low pressure, and solves a technical bottleneck relating to a conventional process for forming this kind of members that is subject to an ultrahigh pressure generator.
Abstract: A method for face recognition through facial expression normalization includes: fitting an input two-dimensional face image into a three-dimensional face model by using a three-dimensional face database; normalizing the three-dimensional face model into a neutral-expression three-dimensional face model by using a neutral-expression parameter learned from the three-dimensional face database; converting the neutral-expression three-dimensional face model into a neutral-expression two-dimensional face image; and recognizing the neutral-expression two-dimensional face image from a two-dimensional face database. Accordingly, face recognition may be performed with high reliability without a loss of information.

Abstract: A ring cavity device includes a passive ring waveguide and an input/output waveguide horizontally coupled to the passive ring waveguide, including an active waveguide structure vertically coupled to the passive ring waveguide and/or the input/output waveguide. The active waveguide structure compensates for the loss of the passive ring waveguide. A method for fabricating a ring cavity device is also included. The ring cavity device may obtain part of the gain by vertical coupling or mixed coupling (vertical coupling followed by horizontal coupling) thus to compensate the loss in the ring cavity device. Hence, the quality factor of the ring cavity device is improved.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a multi-input and multi-output communication method in a large-scale antenna system. An MIMO transmission method according to the present invention includes: obtaining statistical channel information on at least one terminal, dividing terminals into a plurality of classes and a plurality of groups based on the statistical channel information, wherein the groups depend on the classes; determining a group beam-forming matrix for each of the divided groups; performing a group beamforming transmission by group based on the group beam-forming matrix to obtain instantaneous channel information; and scheduling terminals based on the instantaneous channel information. Thus, it is possible to decrease the complexity in a scheduling and precoding calculation without an increase in the amount of wireless resources that are required for providing feedback for a reference signal and channel status information.

Abstract: Two-phase gripper. The gripper reorients and grasps an object while being picked up. The gripper includes a parallel jaw gripper including a pair of opposed, two-phase fingers, each finger including a cavity covered by an elastic strip wherein the elastic strip includes a point contact. Closure of the jaws of the gripper on an object at a first relatively lower force results in contact with lower friction between the point contact on the elastic strip on the fingers and the object allowing the object to rotate under gravity as the gripper is raised. Thereafter, closure of the jaws of the gripper on the object at a second relatively higher force causes the elastic strip to receded into the cavity resulting in multi-point contact with higher friction between the fingers and the object to securely grasp the object. In a preferred embodiment, the cavity is a Y-shaped groove and the object is cylindrical or prismatic.
